Author Biography

Candida Sullivan believes in miracles. She was born with a rare condition called Amniotic Band Syndrome, which generally causes death in most babies before they are ever born. She knows that it a beautiful blessing she survived and wants to show the world that her scars are not a punishment, but instead are a wonderful expression exemplifying God’s love and mercy for her life. She believes God spared her for a reason and wants to spend her life telling of the hope and love God placed inside of her.

She also believes in dreams and knows God can make them come true. When her first book, Zippy and the Stripes of Courage, was published, Candida had no idea it would become a best seller as well as a finalist for a Reader’s Favorite Award. She knows God makes the reality even better than the dreams.

Candida lives in Tennessee with her husband Shannon and two boys, Cayden and Jordon. She teaches Sunday school and loves to be surrounded by the wonder and excitement of kids.

See Zippy in his first book titled Zippy and the Stripes of Courage. See also Candida's book for adults, Underneath the Scars, for her story about how she overcame her struggles of dealing with Amniotic Band Syndrome.

"Zippy's Big Difference," written by Candida Sullivan and illustrated by Jack Foster, is an excellent story that is geared for children, but will teach both children and adults valuable lessons. Zippy prays that the rain will stop and the clouds will go away. However, he is dismayed to see white all over the ground as he believes the clouds have fallen from the sky. Zippy asks his friends if a prayer can be cancelled, but then he is told that the white on the ground is really snow. However, this leads to a discussion about prayer as well as God having a plan for each and every person.

This book is a short children's book; however, this small book is filled with so much! Zippy learns that one's heart needs to be in the right place while praying instead of just praying for selfish things all the time. Zippy also realizes that God does not make mistakes and he was created by God; therefore, there is a plan and a purpose for how Zippy was created, all white without black stripes like "normal" zebras are created. This leads to Zippy's friends recognizing the differences among them and their uniqueness as being part of God's plan for their lives. Zippy learns to accept himself as part of God's creation and plan. I loved this book and I am looking forward to sharing it with children as it will help children to recognize their uniqueness and their place in God's plan and how loved they are. The illustrations that go along with this story are excellent as well and they will catch the reader's attention.
