"Sammy is Special" starts when Sonja notices a family moving in the house next to hers. At first, they seem pretty normal: there is a mom and a dad, and their children. However, later on she sees one of them, a boy who looked different from the family. Before she can contemplate more, Sonja's mom calls her for dinner. She asks her mom about the boy and in return she is told that the child's name is Sammy and that he has Down Syndrome. Mom tells Sonja that she should give Sammy a chance. Sonja is about to protest but her mom gives her a look which makes her silent. The next day, Sammy approaches Sonja but she doesn't want to do anything with him so she goes home. This makes Sonja deliberate on what she has done and finally, she has decided to give him a chance. Once she opens a friendship with Sammy, it takes her on a journey which she will never forget in all of her life.

Words are always a powerful tool when one wants to stir feelings among the masses. It can turn any situation upside down and make anything bad turn to good or vice versa. This book is a proof of that. The words here are so powerful that they create a very heart-warming story. It stirred my feelings and I felt compassion and empathy. It made me believe. Also, the characters are very much suitable for the story. Since the target audience are mostly children, they will be able to relate to the people in the book. They will be able to see the situation of people with Down Syndrome clearly. I also adore the pictures. I think it will really help in getting this book's message across. All in all, I believe this book is very powerful. I can only imagine how much it will change children and adults alike. Surely it will be a wonderful book for anyone related to people with Down Syndrome.
