Bountiful Bay by Verna Clay, the first book in a series, starts with twenty-five-year-old Fleur Wilson receiving a phone call from attorney Harris Parker. He tells the astonished young woman that she has inherited a mansion in Oregon and a fortune from a stranger named Eleanor Bountiful. Fleur accepts the inheritance, hoping to turn the mansion into a bed and breakfast. But the once beautiful mansion needs restoration. Fleur turns to a man who offers her a helping hand. Jackson Winters, or Jack, is a bestselling author and formerly an architect. He wants to restore Bountiful Mansion and help Fleur achieve her dream. Jack's teenage daughter, Kat, joins them, adding to the challenge. Jack tries to become a better father to this troubled teen while renovating the old building, struggling to finish a book before the deadline, and falling in love with Fleur. Meanwhile, Fleur is determined to solve the old family secrets that her mother, Penny, kept from her.

Verna Clay's Bountiful Bay is a heartwarming and uplifting novel about love, self-sacrifice, commitment, and family values. Verna offers a beautiful romance between the main characters, a puzzling mystery in Bountiful Mansion, and a gripping element of suspense for the picturesque town of Bountiful is not as peaceful as it seems. All the characters are very well-defined. Verna pays equal attention to the main characters and the secondary ones. Fleur is romantic, loving, and very honest. While still fighting the demons of his past, Jack is the epitome of selflessness. The secondary characters include the unforgettable Star, who reminds Fleur of "a dark fairy," and the lovely Helene from a memory care facility, who deals with her condition gracefully. The author uses simple language and offers engaging subplots and an interesting father-daughter dynamic between Jack and Kat. Bountiful Bay also has a startling twist concerning Penny and her moment of despair. This surprising turn of events makes the book very special. I highly recommend Bountiful Bay to fans of contemporary romance, family drama, and suspense.
