Changing Gears by Roseanne Beck is the story of two people trying to navigate life in their own awkward manner, but fate brought them together in the most beautiful way. Lauren Moore is trying to put the pieces of her life together while making sure that her family’s bicycle shop business does not fall apart. She is an awkward mess, especially when she comes across any handsome man. She just doesn’t know what to do with herself. So when she meets the handsome and exceptionally talented Jake Chambers, she knows she is in trouble. He is off-limits, he is angsty about his injured leg and she is not really sure if he likes her or not. So what is a girl to do in a situation like this? She is falling hard for this guy, but she is reluctant to give love a chance. Should she take the plunge and see what happens?

Funny, witty, gentle, sexy and familiar, I loved this story for so many reasons. Roseanne Beck has done a wonderful job of creating a story that makes you laugh out loud and relate to the characters at the same time. I loved how funny and equally awkward both Jake and Lauren are; they are perfect for each other. They allow the other person to be themselves while trying their best to be as supportive as possible. The plot is fast-paced, amazingly well-developed and the overall feel of the story is exceptionally good. Reading this story was like hearing a friend share a tale with me that she loved. I loved the development, the characters, the humor, the love, the relationship and absolutely everything about this novel.

Changing Gears is a work of romantic comedy fiction penned by author Roseanne Beck, and forms the first novel of the Shifting Into Love series. A clean romance with only a little use of strong language, this fun and uplifting romance will be suitable for all readers who enjoy an awkward, imperfect heroine searching for love in a complicated world. We meet the adorable Lauren Moore, whose family owns a bike shop, and we see her fall to pieces at once over the handsome new bad boy Jake Chambers, who is suffering from a broken leg. As Jake heals and has to slow down his life, Lauren tries not to move into it, but circumstance compels them together for better, and for worse.

Author Roseanne Beck has created a delightful work of both comedy and romance as her characters come to an unlikely but ultimately satisfying pairing. Jake and Lauren couldn’t be more different from the outset, and this clash of differences brings about skillful dialogue and plenty of humor as they try, and often fail, to get onto each other’s level in the initial story outset. Their development is well penned and well-paced, despite the novel’s short, cozy-read length, so we get a full picture of their personalities that we as readers can relate to and enjoy. There’s a great balance of individual growth and relationship development in the central plot, with realistic and often wry humor injected about the imperfectness of love. Overall, Changing Gears is a highly recommended romance read for all.

Changing Gears by Roseanne Beck is a romantic comedy. Lauren Moore is awkward around men and then Jake walks, or rather limps, into her life. Recovering from a broken leg, he takes on the job of a mechanic in Lauren’s bike shop. His injury is a big threat to his career in Motocross but he does know how to fix a bike. Thanks to a one-night stand Jake had with Lauren’s best friend, Megan, Jake is off-limits to Lauren but that doesn’t stop her going weak at the knees and tripping over her words when she sees him. As her attraction to Jake grows, Lauren has to fight harder and harder to stay sane – what are the chances she will succeed?

Changing Gears by Roseanne Beck is a funny, heart-warming romantic comedy. The story steps straight into the action from page one and doesn’t let up. Told from two points of view, the chapters flit between Jake's and Lauren’s stories very smoothly, giving us the story from both sides. This is a laugh-out-loud comedy with characters that you can totally relate to. They are well developed, real people with real lives and very likable. You won’t be able to help yourself rooting for both Jake and Lauren throughout a story of a socially awkward heroine and an imperfect, flawed hero The story rocks along at a steady pace, keeping your attention locked on all the way. The plot is a new take on an age-old boy-meets-girl story, with plenty of ups and downs and light-hearted humor. Great story, ideal for fans of romantic comedies who want something easy to while away a couple of hours.
