5 Tips For Freelancer Writers
The first thing that you should do is to find space at home where you can do your freelancing without being disturbed. If you can, the best idea is to have some office space set aside in your home. If not, you might consider sectioning off a corner of a room to give you some privacy. One way or another, you want to find space for your work where you won't have anyone else disturbing you. It is important that you have control over the space you choose so that you can work when and how often you need to.
Make It More Professional
Never get into the habit of waking up, grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting at your computer in your pajamas. That is making things much too comfortable and it can make you feel that the day stretches on endlessly and you have time for many breaks. Freelancing is as important as any office job so dress comfortably but dress so you have the feeling that you are at work.
Work A Set Schedule
Attempt to schedule regular working hours for yourself. Take the time to divide up your work during the day, but of the hours which you choose, make sure you keep to them regularly. There might be times that certain things might interrupt you and you can adjust your schedule accordingly, but then the next day go right back to your usual routine. This will also give you a better feel of having a regular job that you do day in and day out.
Don't Get Too Comfortable
Even though you are working from home you don't want to get too comfortable. This means that your freelance work is real work. Don't stop working to do regular household chores; you should have a time when you do them that won't interrupt your freelance writing work. So as much as the occasional afternoon nap is all right, it is not all right to take breaks to watch TV. The word here is discipline and you should be well disciplined in your freelance writing work.
Don't Get Isolated
As much as freelance writing work is serious business, if you are alone most of the time then this can become a feeling of isolation. So whenever you have the chance, go out for lunch or on your lunch break go out for a walk. Get a feel that there are other people out there and then when you return to your work you won't feel that you have been just cooped up all day. Just don't turn your lunches into two or three hour ones.
Treat It Like A Job
In other words, freelance writing is as much a job as any other. The only difference is that you are your own boss, set your own hours and are responsible for meeting the deadlines. Therefore find the motivation you need and discipline yourself and you will have lots of loyal clients and plenty of work.
