About White Noise
As a writer, I need white noise to concentrate. Yes, there is good in peaceful silence, such as at a church service. However, as for writing, it is just a different story. So, I am going to share with you most of the sounds I concentrate with. However, if you are not old school, you can simply get an app to do every single one.
Fans are my favorite. Just the right level of noise for me, especially on high. However, you might like medium or low.
A radio is good if I can find a decent radio station playing my type of music, mostly rock. I cannot seem to get into today’s music. I find CDs to be boring.
Televisions are good for me to listen to if a piece of good religious news is on or something really funny is on. Maybe you could find a television program that you would like.
A fireplace, heater, wood burner or furnace is nice during the winter. The warmth and the sound keep one comfy and cozy.
Birds in the earlier part of the day during summer are always so cute and sing their little “songs”, singing to get up, drink your coffee and get to work writing.
Crickets at night during the summer make a soothing reminder that it is almost time for bed, a day well spent with my writing.
Rain pouring down makes a rhythmic sound, almost putting one in a writing trance. I have always wanted a window seat. Take advantage of yours if you have one.
Air conditioners keep one comfortable and cool in the summer. Their humming puts one in writing mode, instead of sweating and being annoyed.
Busy coffee shops or restaurants, with their noise and conversation, keep one awake. I may not take my writing material with me, but I think of stuff to write about in my head while there.
YouTube is free for all of you that want a simple, modern and free option. Just look up what you want to listen to. I like to listen to a smoking session noise right before bed via YouTube.
You might think I am being silly or weird, but white noise really does work. You may have seen or heard of the term “ambient noise”, which is the same thing. Some people say that white noise is just the opposite of good. I am telling you about my own personal experience.
So, there you have it. Some people are blessed with much intelligence but lack common sense. Some people lack both, yet have book smarts. I am not sure what I am, but the above can help all three of you if you give it a whirl.
Finally, if you have the cash to spend, then look up the apps. Being that I am a “starving” writer, I use what I already own and is free. However, I can tell you of an example of a white noise app, such as the app called Coffivity. The app is all cafe sounds.
I hope I have helped you. Write on.
