Eat, Sleep and Drink
What makes life interesting? Life is intriguing when there is something that excites you or gives you the ability to feel special. It is the same with writing. When you write, you want to share something that you have experienced; whether the feeling is good or bad, exciting or depressing, the story must be heard.
What makes a great story? It is a story that you have been able to eat, sleep and drink. It is a story that you have given birth to. It is a story that you have written which allows the reader the ability to walk through the highs and lows with you.
With your story, you must eat, sleep and drink it so much that it becomes a part of you and is who you are. Just like you would write a letter of encouragement to a veteran that has been deployed, a letter of thanks to a grandfather that has played an integral part in your life, or a letter of dispute about a product or service that you have received from a company that makes you unhappy or are unable to use. The passion behind the letter should convey the feelings that you wish to express to the receiver, whether it is joy, happiness or disappointment.
These are the same elements that you should bring with you when you begin to create your book. However, how do you get there is the question? Before you start to write your first words on the page, consider what is the message that you wish to convey. What do you want the reader to know, feel and understand about your book?
There are a few simple steps that you can take to learn how to efficiently eat, sleep and drink your message, and to turn it into a book. Are you ready? Before I begin, it is essential to understand that these are the basics steps.
There is so much more you can do to engage your target audience in what you have to say, but here is an overview:
1. What is your pain point? In other words, what do you have to say?
2. What is the message? Explain why should it concern me.
3. Who are you writing for? Help me to understand why I should be interested in what you have to say.
4. What will make me stay? Explain to me why should I continue reading.
5. Draw me into your eat, sleep and drink paradigm so that I cannot put your book down. Entice me to tell others about your book.
6. Now, get started. Don’t just sit there, start writing. Be compelling. Write from the heart.
As you begin to delve into the six steps above you will start to create a more steady flow of your writing which will allow you the ability to interject other steps. Just like a good movie or a TV series, a good book must speak volumes. When you watch a TV show or a movie, did you know that these ideas began from a basic concept but with research, it is given life. Give life to what you eat, sleep and drink in.
