What to Write about in Sports
Sports is a very large topic field because of the numerous different sports and the many different teams and leagues each sport has. The immensity of the topic means that a writer needs to narrow the sports topic down by perspective and focus. In choosing a perspective, a writers options are only limited by their own experiences as perspectives can range from sports enthusiast to player all the way to coach. In choosing a focus, a writer has many options to choose from as a writer can choose to focus on a specific sport at a specific level or a specific sports team.
Popular Topics
The two main sports topics that tend to be always popular are current events and debatable or argumentative topics. Those interested in sports tend to be most interested in current events like sporting events, news about individual players, and news about teams. However, these topics change so often that a writer might choose to focus their writing more on debatable topics about the sports. Current events that involve sports can generally be located through Google Trends while debatable topics can be located through the use of forums, social media, and gossip.
All Time Favorites
One of the all-time favorite topics that sports fans love to read about is news on their favorite team, player, or sport. The beginning of these topics can be located easily through social media and the news, however it is important for the writer to expand on the topic and offer extra information, a new perspective on the topic, or a new prediction about it in order to make their writing interesting and fresh. When it comes to debatable and argumentative topics, there are many to choose from, but here are several examples of some of the all-time favorite arguments and debates surrounding sports that readers are interested in.

2. Should eSports be considered a real sport and treated like such? Why or why not? Who should decide if eSports should be treated as a real sport? Should eSports be added to the Olympics? Are eSports as helpful in improving a person’s health as traditional sports are?

4. Should certain sport team names that are offensive to some people be changed to be less offensive (Indians, Braves, and Redskins)? What should they be changed to? If they should not be changed, why not?
5. Should professional athletes be required to have some form of formal education before becoming professional athletes? Should athletes be required to receive financial training to stop them from going bankrupt when their career is over? If yes, how would it be handled and by whom?
