11 Effective Tips to Boost your Article Writing Skills - Part 1

Writing articles is a real art and not everyone can do it. However, when you read some of the blogs on the internet these days, many people give it a go without a thought for quality – and it shows. But if you really want to shine, then writing a standard article is never going to cut it. What you need is to learn the skills that will take you to the next level and boost your writing skills.

Keep the Wording to a Minimum

I’m not talking about article length here, that really doesn’t matter. What I’m talking about is how many words you use that you don’t need to. The less wordy your article is, the better it will read.

Start Writing Early

In the morning that is. Most people get their best work done first thing in the morning; it is when they are at their best, more awake and far less likely to be interrupted. Your brain is fresh after a (hopefully) good night’s sleep, the atmosphere is quiet and conducive to an increase in productivity.

It really is quite simple; if you want to be a good writer, you need to be a good reader. The more you read, the more creative your brain is and the more ideas you will come up with. You will be more knowledgeable on specific subjects and the information stored away in your brain, whether you think it is useful or not, will come in handy somewhere along the line. Read everything – novels, non-fiction, blogs, newspaper, everything you can get.

Keep it Simple

If you want decent traffic on your blogs or articles, you need to keep your style of writing simple. This even applies to technical works – you can still keep it simple enough to be understood by most people. The easier it is to read and understand, the more people will read it.

Don’t Write Everything in One Go

Write in stages. It takes time to put together a decent article and it all starts with knowing your topic. Once you know that, you can list a few ideas about what you want to write. Then you can start putting your articles together, finishing off with proofreading and editing before it goes to publishing. Take each stage slowly to make sure your article is word-perfect, relevant and high-quality.

Don’t Get Distracted

You need to find yourself a quiet, distraction-free area to write in. You might have multiple emails and social network sites but the last thing you need is your phone pinging away constantly, especially if you are the type of person to get distracted. Turn your phone off, turn off the doorbell if you work from home and forget about putting the TV on. Set yourself a target and a quiet time to meet that target. Then you can reward yourself with a few minutes to check your accounts before you tackle the next target.

There’s more to come with part 2 of this series so go find it and keep on improving your writing skills.
