5 Guiding Questions to Starting a Blog

What do you love? What are your favorite YouTube channels? What books do you love? What do you like spending time doing? The most important thing in establishing your blog is to ensure that you have fun. Passion will keep you at it before your audience builds up and you get sizeable traffic. Nothing demoralizes a blogger than starting with no passion and realizing it will take time before becoming established. Start a topic that you will love to write about even on your lazy days.

Is there a niche that you can fill?

Passion alone is not enough, but when it is matched with a need, the chances for your idea’s success shoot higher. You can tell your story and inspire others; you can provide tips on various topics. The tips could vary from one field to another. Possible fields you can explore include culinary art, finance, music, sports, fashion or any other that you are passionate about. Read what other bloggers are writing and check what is missing. See whether you can fill market gaps. Also look out for popular blogs with huge numbers of followers. This does not mean you specifically copy their ideas, you can write your own content on related topics in your own style. Doing a little research could be helpful.

What are you good at?

Have people told you that you are good at something such as styling hair, designing outfits, doing make-up? This could present an opportunity to further grow your talent and grow your revenue. Think of your day job, and what can you transfer to a blog from your own occupation? The fact that you are employed or even running a business is an indication that there is something needed that you are already offering. Think of how the nature of your service can be translated as content for a blog. As you market your business, also market your blog alongside it. If a client or customer needs tips on how to use a product, you can refer them to your blog.

What can you learn alongside the audience?

You do not have to be a specialist. You can always learn alongside the readers of your blog. For example, if you have encountered a particular problem in your life, you can ask for feedback from the audience or write about how you overcame it. The idea is to create relationships with the people you write for. It is forming a community of people that are brought together by the spirit of living and experiencing life together. Pay attention to readers’ comments and respond when you can. They need to know you are listening to their views just as you need to know that they are reading.

Are there services that you can offer or crafts that you can sell through your blog?

A blog can also be used to showcase services that you are offering. Instead of signing up on online selling platforms, you can choose to go solo and be in charge of your business. This can add a unique feel to your business and there is also the added advantage that you will not be constrained by different sites’ rules.
