9 Effective Guidelines That Will Help Authors Write, Publish, and Sell Ebooks
Technology has helped ebooks overtake many traditional books today. Because of this, more readers have traded their traditional books for e-book readers or e-readers for use on devices such as tablets, smartphones, and laptops. For aspiring writers who want to know how to write, publish and sell an e-book, here are 9 tips they should follow.
1 – Come up with ideas and write them down. The ideas should be relevant to the information that most readers need. Writers can learn what their readers want by giving them several topics to choose from on Twitter or Facebook.
2 – Organize details by outlining. This can be done with 3 methods: by drawing a diagram, by examining other ebooks, and by writing a list. For the first method, writers should connect their ideas by using arrows or lines. For the second method, writers should know what topics usually appear in e-books by looking through their chapters. For the third method, writers must know what chapters their e-books need before writing a list.
3 – Begin writing the e-book. Once writers begin writing their e-books, they should never stop writing until they reach a certain word count.
4 – Review and revise. Writers should examine the e-books for grammatical and typographical errors. They should also ensure that the information they have provided is relevant to each chapter.
5 – Include additional details. The ebooks’ titles, introductions, acknowledgements, and bibliographies must be added. Bibliographies are only necessary if writers use some information from other sources and acknowledgements are needed if there are people who help create or publish the e-books.
6 – Add an e-book cover. Copyrighted images should be not be used. However, writers can use them after they get permission from the copyright holders. Writers can also create virtual covers that will attract readers.
7 – Compile concise and appropriate information about the e-book. Writers should write down the e-books’ titles, chapter titles, number of chapters, word counts, and number of pages. This guideline is very important for many writers.
8 – Select a publishing platform or an ebook publisher. Kindle Direct Publishing, Lulu, and CreateSpace are some examples of e-book publishing platforms that writers can use. Writers should consider the publishing platforms’ piracy protections, audience ranges, and royalties. They must always select platforms that will generate the most e-book sales. The e-books should only be downloaded by readers who paid for them.
9 – Promote the e-book. Links to e-books should be posted on social networking websites where writers have a presence. These links should re-direct readers to sites where e-books can be bought and downloaded. Writers can talk about their e-books on YouTube. They can also send e-book copies to bloggers who are willing to promote e-books through interviews.
