Blogging as a Career
Blogging is a new career that modern writers are getting into. A truncation of weblogging, blogging used to be a series of informational discussions published on the Internet, which has now evolved into postings on different subjects listed in reverse chronological order. Blogs range from diary-type forms of expression to marketing-style content. It can tackle different areas like humor, politics, sports, gambling, sex, finance, college life, and many other areas of interest. Any topic the blogger wants to write about can find a specific audience. This is what is known as a niche. Many bloggers will tell you that a niche or your specialty is the key to finding readers. Your niche must be sustained by consistent writing and posting of articles to reinforce reader engagement. So how does one make a career out of blogging?
Career Opportunities
While blogging continues to grow in popularity, many writers, especially newbies, don’t how to begin or where to find opportunities. These opportunities come in the form of content writer positions. Website owners need writers to sustain the increasing demand on their website’s engagement. Ghostwriting positions are also open, wherein your articles are credited to the website owner or no bylines to your credit. Some websites will stipulate in the contract that they keep all the rights to your articles, while some allow reversion of rights back to you after a specific period. Read their terms and conditions before agreeing to take a job. Bloggers may also be required to render editorial and administrative functions like copyediting and website management.
Nowadays, bloggers no longer find it difficult to find jobs. You only need to visit career websites and job postings to see which companies or webmasters are looking for bloggers. As always, Google is your friend when it comes to searching the web. “Blogger jobs” will yield considerable results. From here you have a wide choice of which job websites are hiring. Search for companies and visit their website, looking for the niche you’re specializing in. Study the articles that they post. Another opportunity is to register in work-for-hire or headhunter websites, where it matches you with companies suited to your niche.
Benefits of Blogging
Where do I begin to tell you about the benefits of blogging as a career? If I were to pick one of its awesome benefits, it would have to be the joy of telecommuting. You can work anywhere as long as you have good Internet access. There are no office politics to deal with. You are not confined in a small cubicle. And if you want to work at home naked, who will stop you? Bloggers can choose home-based or even nomadic locations. Of course, it does not mean absolute freedom. Understand that your responsibility is to deliver quality content and, if this is part of your agreement with your employer, perform other administrative duties on maintaining the site.
A flexible time schedule is another awesome benefit to a blogging career. Bloggers are required to write and upload new posts at specific time periods, but it is up to them how they manage their time to accomplish their tasks and meet deadlines.
Blogging is a Commitment
We all want to have great careers and make money in the process. Blogging, like any other career, requires commitment and time. People tend to try what has been proven to be popular and profitable. Many blogs come and go. This is because bloggers don’t have the time to commit to delivering consistent quality content. Others maintain blogs with different niches that, over time, become overwhelmed with many writing tasks. Before getting into blogging, make sure that you can set aside time to write on a regular basis. In most cases, bloggers not only deal with writing. Good articles require research. If you are writing about the effects of Brexit on the British sterling, you need to set aside the time for both research and writing.
