Can Writing a Blog Help Sell Your Book?

Congratulations! You have written a book. You have published a book. And now, your concern is to sell your book. You are wondering if writing a blog can help sell your book. Technically, writing a blog is neutral. It could have a positive or negative impact on your book sales. So, take heed. Properly writing a blog can help sell your book. Here’s how.

Blogging makes the clients see the real you or the other side of you. Blogging is a way of expressing yourself, your thoughts. This gives other people the opportunity to see the real you. Or see the other side of you. Blogging reveals not only you wearing your writer’s hat, but you wearing other hats as well - you as a parent, as a shopper, a food critic or a nature lover; you as a movie goer or a star wanna-be. They will see your humanity and be able to relate to you. It is also a good site for having conversation with them. It is basically establishing yourself to other people, but only online.

Connects you to other people. This is a unique time that we are in. You will meet more people online than personally. So, if you are looking for potential clients for your book, blogging sites are good sources. It gives you the opportunity to be known by potential clients. And having a following will be easier to acquire than in an actual face-to-face setting. You could also add links to your sites that will lead them to other social networks and that is another way to increase your connections to people.

Develops your writing skills. Let’s face it. Even great writers need to practice and practice to continually enhance their skills. Blogging gives you this opportunity as you write consistently (maybe on a daily or every other day basis). And the topics can be diverse. It also develops your ability to answer questions (for those clients who like to comment and ask) and develop your patience for different kinds of readers. Blogging can also help you to become more imaginative and more updated, things that are vital in being a good writer.

Provides free advertisement. A small box in a newspaper can cost you a few hundred dollars. A few seconds on television would cost you a lot, definitely. But even a whole page or more in the blogging site would cost you nothing. So once in a while (do not overdo it, you can choke the potential buyers), advertise your book. Be creative in advertising without sounding that you are pushing your book too hard. Too much advertising could also backfire and you might lose some followers.

Gives you the possibility to reach the whole world. No other avenue can boast of visibility worldwide except online. As an author, your presence must be felt. This could mean the difference between huge sales or zero sales. You cannot do without marketing for your book sales. Don’t miss the chance for others to know you as a great writer. Start blogging.
