Creative Ways of Shaking Off Writer’s Block

Writer’s block is the arch nemesis of every author who wants to finish their novel quickly and effortlessly. Battling writer’s block can be a bit difficult, especially when you try too hard to fight it. You can try as hard as you want, but you cannot shake off writer’s block by sitting there and trying hard to write something that will work. Sometimes, you need to make some hard decisions that may make you feel like you are losing time, but in reality, this can help you get back on track to write the best content of your life.

Remember that there is no single solution for shaking off writer’s block and it is more of a trial and error way of getting things done. If something worked for some other writer, it does not mean that it will work for you too. So, here are some creative ways of shaking off writer’s block and get back to your writing as soon as possible.

The first thing you can do to end your writer’s block is step away from your writing and forget about it. Give yourself some time (even if it takes a day) to forget about your writing and do something fun for yourself. The more you think about it, the more it will make it difficult for you to get back in the game. So give yourself some time to relax and then try to write again.

While you are stepping away from writing, try going for a walk to clear your mind. You will be able to clear your mind, relax a little and will be able to get back to your writing. This has helped many writers, so trying it will be worth it.

Try focusing on your writing by removing all distractions. Put your phone away, keep away from social media and try to isolate yourself from everything but your writing. Sometimes, simply concentrating on your writing can help you fight off writer’s block.

Change your working environment. If you are writing sitting at your work desk, change your position and try to work at your dining table, living room sofa, floor or even your bed. You can also try going out of the house and working outside in a park or at a café - this can also help.

You can try reading a book to distract yourself for a few minutes or you can try writing while listening to music. These two things work wonders for some writers and they can get back to work soon enough.

Last but not least, when you are stuck and nothing works, utilize that time to brainstorm some ideas. You can think of new ideas, think of better ways to develop your story or your characters to make your story even better.

These are some ways through which you can try to shake off writer’s block. While it can be very annoying, fighting it and trying to write at that time would make it worse. So try these creative ways and see what happens.
