FAQs On How to Get Your Book Published

What are the different ways to get your book published?

There are basically five ways to have your book published. These are the following:

Traditional Publishing – this is when a publisher agrees to publish your book. The publisher gives you a contract and technically, they own your book and just pay you a royalty.

Digital Publishing or electronic publishing – this is self-publishing by choosing a platform where you can upload your ebook for free. The royalty is usually dependent on the price of the book.

Print on demand Publishing (POD) – this is self-publishing where a vendor would print a hard copy of your book per order.

Vanity publishing – this is self-publishing where the author pays for everything.

Subsidy publishing – this is self-publishing but the publisher shares some of the costs of the publication.

How soon will your book be published?

It depends on the type of publishing that you have. In digital or e-publishing, it just takes around one hour to upload your book and 24 hours for it to go live online. For traditional publishing, allot 15 days to one month of printing, depending on the number of pages of your book. Print on demand or POD can be as fast as 5 minutes or an hour, depending again on the number of pages and on the number of hard copies that you order. For vanity and subsidy, they could take weeks to one month too.

What is an ISBN and do you need that to get your book published?

International Standard Book Number or ISBN - this is a system that is recognized internationally wherein code numbers are assigned to each book. Yes, you need an ISBN to get your books published. It has a minimal cost of $99 or depending on your location. You could also buy ISBN by bulk (10, 100, 1000) and the cost is lower. However, some platforms for e-publishing give this for free. It usually takes around 5-7 working days for the ISBN to be released.

What are the good platform sites that could help publish your book?

There are many platform sites that offer good packages for self-publishing authors. Study the offers that would suit you. Examples of the platforms are Kindle, Nook, Createspace, Ingram and iBook. There are other platforms that might be suitable for you.

Which is the best platform site that you should get to publish your book?

As of this time, Kindle holds the record for having the biggest sales of ebooks. Kindle owns around 65% of the market. So if your primary concern is to sell your book, then Kindle is the one for you. However when you want a higher royalty, other platforms offer a higher amount.

How hard is it to get your book published?

The right question now is how easy is it to publish your book? Unlike years before when the only way to have your book published was through traditional publishing, modern day writers have more options to have their books published. Plus, they can even publish it for free.
