Fiverr for Freelance Writers

Fiverr is a global website that acts as an online marketplace where buyers and sellers can exchange money for gigs (tasks/jobs). The name Fiverr comes from the fact that the starting cost of all jobs is $5. There are many different categories of gigs offered on Fiverr, but the ones that would be of the most interest to a freelance writer would be digital marketing, writing and translation, business, and fun and lifestyle. Each one of these categories can involve writing gigs.

Getting Started

If you are new to Fiverr, the first thing you need to do is create an account and then confirm your email address. Creating an account is 100% free and it never costs you a penny from your bank account. Instead, Fiverr takes $1 from every $5 you make. Now this might seem like a lot, but Fiverr provides writers with clients and advertising.

Creating Your First Gig

Now that you have an account, you need to begin creating your gigs. In doing this, you create listings of the jobs you can do; in each gig you include a description of the type of work you are offering, what you will do within the gig, what you need from the client, if there is anything you will not do, and gig extras. Gig extras are extra jobs or tasks you are willing to do and how much each one costs. For instance, your base gig might be write a 500-word blog article, then your gig extras could be: locate and add appropriate visual elements for $10, promote the article on social media for $5, write an additional 500 words for $5, and anything else you can think of. The gig extras allow freelancers to expand their profits on Fiverr.  When designing your gig extras, it is important to only include work that you are both willing and capable of doing as clients can order gig extras and gigs without contacting you first.

Selling Your Services

Now that you have a Fiverr account and you have successfully created gigs, it is time to start making money. As a new seller, you will not have a high seller rating that makes it vitally important to your future earnings so that all your clients walk away happy. To get those first few clients, you will need to promote your gigs. There are two main ways to do this: social media and sending quotes. The social media option is mostly self-explanatory; it is where you share the links to your gigs on social media. The Fiverr users who get the most clients from this method are the ones that will seek out social media users and pages that would benefit most from their services and then send them a direct message or a post on the social media page. The send quotes method is one of the fastest methods of getting clients; on the Fiverr page under the seller tab there is an option labeled “Send Quotes.” This option is where clients post the work that they need done. It is on this page that a Fiverr seller can promote their gigs, along with a personal message in response to work requests explaining why their gig would be the best choice for the client.
