Four Effective Ways to Use Twitter for Promoting a Self-published Book
As we usher in the digital age, the social network website Twitter has become a vital tool for an independent author’s success. This website has various tools that can help them promote their work and reach out to their readers in a cost-efficient yet effective manner.
But in order to utilize this social media tool to its full potential, one has to be creative in using it. Authors need to create posts that are tailor-made for their intended audience and make sure to interact with them frequently. In this article, you will learn effective techniques in using Twitter to promote your self-published book.
1. Schedule your tweets. Tweeting too much or too little can both be disastrous to your online career. That is why you must schedule your tweets accordingly. An ideal schedule would be sharing a post every two hours or so. When sending a reply to your followers, do not do it in bulk. Just answer a minimum amount of messages a day.
In addition, you can also repeat some of your posts. Some of your followers might be living in a different time zone, so it is effective to repost some of your tweets every ten hours.
2. Engage with your followers. Social media networks are mainly built for connecting with other people. Interact with your followers by answering their inquiries, sharing jokes with them, and liking and re-tweeting their posts. A simple 140-character reply is enough to make them feel special.
If you regularly interact with your followers, they will be more loyal to you and more willing to promote your self-published book.
3. Don’t be stingy with information. Getting your book to go viral is not just about posting tweets like “Please buy my book,” or “My new book is super cool.” It is also about making them excited. In order to do that, you need to share interesting bits of information with them.
These include excerpts of some chapters, pictures of character designs, or your book’s cover art. You can also share news reports and blog posts about the upcoming work.
People also want to know more about you. If you have images of yourself while working, why not share them? You can also post the places and objects that gave you ideas for your work.
4. Hold contests. Contests are one of the most effective ways to keep followers excited and active. Who doesn’t want to win prizes, right? Ask them to do a fan fiction or fan art contest. You can even host a Twitter Quiz Night. On the release day of your book, give the winners some cool prizes like a handcrafted bookmark or a shirt that you signed.
To wrap things up
Thanks to Twitter and other social media networks, independent authors do not need to spend a lot of money marketing their works. Just remember to be very creative and resourceful when posting tweets. In addition, build strong connections with your readers by thanking them and answering their queries.
