Get Noticed By Being An Expert Author

Have you noticed that some people are great storytellers? Are you? Some people are such great storytellers that others would say, “Have you ever thought about writing a book on that subject?”

If you were asked this question, what would your response be? Some people are so good at storytelling that they can sell a block of ice to an Eskimo. Can you?

How are your storytelling abilities? There are several elements that go into telling a great story. When telling a story, whether in writing or orally, it should move, intrigue and capture the attention of the audience or reader.

Do you think that you can write a story that will entice readers to not only read it, but to tell others about it? Whether your chosen format or genre is a blog, e-book, print, audiobook, novel, memoir, poetry, comics, or graphic novel, let’s explore some of the steps that go into becoming an expert in storytelling:

Write.

As you begin to master the art of storytelling, become an expert in a subject matter. For example, Dalai Lama leaders are known for their spiritual, inspirational insight and messaging while Maya Angelou brings to the pages words of theatre, life, and activism that causes the reader to pause, reflect and embrace the message such as in her poem “…And Still I Rise.” The goal is for you to become an expert in your field, so start writing.

Research.

As you write and continue the momentum of creativity, research your subject matter. Through research, knowing, learning and understanding a subject matter is key to your success. You will discover this with the writings of Dr. Seuss, an author of several children’s books like The Cat in the Hat and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas that are classics and have spanned over the course of 20 years. He knew that the rhymes, characters, and images that he depicted in his stories would keep children entertained and he built his image from there.

Create.

How? Write. As you are building your momentum, the bottom line is to begin writing to create your work of art.

Get creative by exploring and looking for ways to educate and entertain your audience. Author J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy stories, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, display how creativity and telling a good story can incite a strong readership following. With the hustle and bustle and challenges of life, books are one of the outlets that people use to escape.

Become the expert.

As you begin to create your body of work, start sharing it with others that you trust. Don’t be thin skinned, but instead be open to criticism. Sharing your work helps to determine if others believe that you have expertise in the subject matter and can tell a compelling story.

Begin to create your genre pathway.

As you begin to write and you submit your writings to publications, through various online resources from your personal blog and website to other platforms, this starts to develop a traction for your expertise. This traction helps to develop a platform for you to be seen as an expert in your field of influence. Writing is the key to honing your craft.

As previously stated, there are many pathways to choose from in getting your work exposed; whether it’s an e-book, print (hardcover or paperback) or an audio book, the choice is up to you. The bottom line is that if you have something compelling to tell the world, then let it out by writing about it. Get noticed by being an expert.
