How Authors Can Use Their Websites to Promote Their Books

Any author who doesn’t own a website should make it a priority to invest in one. A website is one of the most powerful and simplest ways to communicate with readers about anything regarding an author’s book and other works. In order to get a great web designer for your website, you can visit author sites that you admire in your category. These sites will help you to get ideas for your own website and you can also see who designed some of the websites.

Components of your author website

Your author website should have an intuitive design that gives readers all the information they are looking for without doing a lot of searching. The website should have your book’s title, publisher, ISBN, and the date it will be in stores. Make sure that there is a clearly visible link that directs visitors to where to buy the book. If your book is in several locations, the link should take visitors to a page that lists all the places they can buy the book. The book page at online retailers should be operational between four and six months before you launch the book.

On your website, have a link to your YouTube channel. On this channel you can include videos about your current, past, and future books as well as other information about yourself. The author website should have your bio as well as contact information in case a visitor wants to reach you. It is a good idea to keep separate email addresses for business and personal communication. Ask visitors to subscribe to your mailing list to get the latest relevant updates regarding your book.

You can provide an excerpt from the upcoming book on your author website. Remember that you must have permission from the editor before you post the excerpt. Your website should also have endorsements and blurbs to increase interest from readers. Apart from that, there should be positive reviews about your book. Your cover image for the book as well as your photo should be shown on the website. Lastly, the website should have a schedule of upcoming events.

Can you promote a book on a corporate website?

You can place your book cover on the website of your company and include a sample chapter. You can also make a list of speaking engagements and your scheduled book signing events. Feel free to ask people who contributed to the making of the book to do the same thing. Always remember that some actions such as posting a sample chapter need the permission of your editor.

You should also request your company to send emails to all office locations offering employees discounts for buying your book. Get in touch with your company’s marketing team and politely ask if they can mention your book in their marketing efforts. Apart from your firm’s website, you can also use the company’s intranet or portal to promote a book. You can use this portal to organize Q&A sessions with employees at the company.
