Ideas For Storylines

I have always loved writing because it is the perfect way to leave all your everyday worries behind and escape into the magical world of fiction. But sometimes it's hard to know where to begin. What story are you going to tell? This is why I am sharing some of the ideas I have accumulated over the years. Hopefully, one of them will resonate with you and help launch that novel you have always wanted to write.

1. Legend has it that in a quiet village, there is a giant beast who lives in the woods. A young girl gets separated from her friends one day while playing hide and seek. She comes face to face with the beast and they become unlikely friends. When strange events take place in the village, the beast is blamed. Can the young girl protect the beast and prove his innocence?

2. Life in the zoo seems peaceful until lightning strikes and the people and animals swap places.

3.  After failing in his career and marriage, a man is given a magic key that unlocks a door in his new office and takes him back in time.

4. A failing detective suddenly finds he has the power to communicate with the dead to solve crimes.

5. A woman begins a new job at a factory which has just been voted the happiest place to work. The salary and benefits are outstanding. But when her co-workers begin to disappear, she decides to investigate what the factory is really manufacturing.

6. Just off the coast of the Arctic Ocean lives a species of mermaids who have telekinetic powers. When they hear a child crying, they discover she is being held captive on a ship. They now have to figure out who she is and rescue her.

7. A woman buys a cheap mood ring in a second-hand shop. She believes it is a silly gimmick until strange things start to happen every time she wears it.

8. A man makes a promise to a beggar, not realizing that the beggar would, one day, make him keep that promise.

9. When a woman finds herself in a psychiatric hospital, she has to convince the staff that her paranormal experiences are real. Then she discovers hospital records that show neither she or any of the patients are ill.

10. A woman who owns a beauty salon fights to remain in business as a rival salon takes all her clients. She then discovers a map that leads her to a magical fountain of youth.

11. A pastor has just been asked to leave heaven for breaking the rules. What happens next?

12.  One stormy night in a retirement home, the souls of two residents agree to swap places. Then they discover that they must now relive all their mistakes in their new bodies.

13.  A group of evil spirits thinks it would be fun to trick good people by disguising themselves as angels. The 'angels' can grant any wish, but first, the people must drink a magic potion.

14. A little girl is baking cupcakes with her magical Grandma. She doesn't realize Grandma has added a special ingredient and soon she and Grandma set out on an adventure to Cupcakeland.

15. A family moves into a town where all the people seem to live perfect lives on the surface. However, one night when the town clock mysteriously strikes thirteen, the truth is revealed.

Don’t forget, some of these prompts are left open to enable you to use your own interpretation and imagination. Explore your creative mind and let the writing begin.
