Marketing Essentials and Building Your Brand – Things Every Author Should Know

There are some marketing essentials that are too important for authors to ignore! If any author wants to build their brand and grab the attention of their audience, there are some things that authors need to do. Since this is the age of social media and the internet, authors now have the opportunity to market their novels and books that they published even ten years ago.

No book ever dies; it always has the potential of coming back and becoming a part of the life and minds of new readers from a new generation. The internet is so much more than just Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and, if you use the internet properly, you can actually bring any book back, become a brand, and market your old and new books like a charm.

Here are some tips that will help you with this.

Build Your Website

Having a website, even just a static page, would be enough to start with. You don’t have to spend too much money on a website that might not have much content on it. Making websites can be a costly task, so start slow and small and add to your website as you start moving forward, because having a website is very important for building a brand.

Host Giveaways

To be noticed, you might have to take part in giveaways. Everyone likes to get free gifts and enjoy free items. When it comes to books, the people who love to read are willing to give anything a chance when it comes to free books. So collaborate with your fellow writers, take part in giveaways, and grab this chance of interacting with a new set of audiences that might become part of your brand.

Write Blog Posts

Writing blog posts is one way to interact with your audience, connect with them, and share your views. Give readers updates about your upcoming novels, talk to them about your previous books and simply build up anticipation about your new books. You can start small by posting little snippets of your upcoming novel in your blog posts.

However, more than that, you should write engaging content and share the link on your social media platforms. Talk about things that are related to you and your audience. Current affairs and things happening in real life are always the best way to engage with your audience and simply have them explore your ideas with them.

What Else Can You Do?

Start writing blogs and articles about things that relate to your novel. It can be your new novel or it can be an old one; as long as you keep it alive, you can bring it back to audiences and make it better once again. Start collaborating with other bloggers and writers, write pieces for their blogs, and have them add your byline at the end so that you can add a link to your website.

Remember that nothing happens instantly; you will have to spend a lot of time building your image and your brand, and you will have to work really hard to get what you want. Building your brand can take years or it can take months, it all depends upon how you work at it and how determined you are. The results may be slow, but in the end, they will be worth it.
