Side Hustles For Struggling Writers

There is a road one woman took that others doubted.  People really did not think of her as having any type of real job. At first, she did not even have a computer. She did everything by hand through the United States Postal Service. She never gave up though. What was she? A struggling writer.

Do you remember those obsolete index cards? She would handwrite ten (10) humorous greeting card verse and mail to Oatmeal Studios, a humorous greeting card company. The editor kept replying that she should not give up and to keep submitting.

Then, this woman would take Writers’ Market out of the local library for magazine submission requirements. She got rejection letter after rejection letter, all while keeping the Postal Service in business. She then got discovered by a Catholic Newspaper called My People. She would then handwrite her articles and be featured in the newspaper with one other writer with all other articles wired from Vatican City. So, this opportunity was fulfilling. She did so for many years, only to quit as you shall see later on.

Obviously, she was not making much money. So, she looked into some direct sales. I bet you know what she ended up doing.  Yes, she became an Avon lady for eight (8) years.

There were local crafts shows that she would later attend that made her jealous. She thought to herself that she could never make a gift basket, which was the most popular. But, she used the creative side of her brain and taught herself how to create gift baskets and gift jars. To this day, she has kept that as a money-making hobby. One day, she has hopes of opening a free craft shop on Shop Handmade.

Next, she finally could afford a laptop, her first one, after moving to a location where Wi-Fi was available.

She looked online for anything and everything to work with. There was a website called TeeSpring where one could create tee-shirts, even if one did not know how to draw. She did that for a while but never made a sale. But, hey, it was an experience.

Then, she took on the survey craze. After going from one survey site to the next never getting anywhere, she found YouGov, which is the best survey site ever and really does pay. To this day, she still does YouGov.

Furthermore, she learned about all kinds of chat jobs but did not feel very comfortable doing so. But, she ended up stumbling upon a discussion forum called myLot, which is like getting together over a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. One may start any type of discussion or take part in discussions already formed. To this day, she is still a myLotter.

There are so many tutoring opportunities online. She wanted a tutoring job so badly. The pay is good and you are helping someone with their education. She is still waiting for a reply from Aim 4 A Tutoring.

Joyce Meyer of Joyce Meyer Ministries always says to work through the meat and potatoes first. This lady surely has gone through enough meat and potatoes and finally got to dessert. She was accepted by Readers Favorite! She loves the book reviews, but her real passion is the articles. If she sets her mind to it, she can earn a real income. She might not get wealthy, but it is an opportunity.

This is just a little article about the side hustles available for the struggling writer. Do you know that woman I have been talking about? She is me.
