Snacks For Writers To Stash In Their Desk Drawers

Your energy is down.  Your concentration is weak.  The time is about noon. You are, in other words, 'hangry.' What does this mean? You are hungry and angry. You need a snack!

When you work on an empty stomach, you probably have lower productivity.  Your creativity lowers while attempting to work.

Having a snack allows you to tackle the rest of the day!  As a writer, time is valuable. You may even get so lost in thought, that you forget to eat.

Why not keep a desk drawer full of snacks? The desk drawer would be a constant reminder to have something. The following are snacks a writer may keep in their desk drawer:

Peanut butter with crackers. Feel full and keep your blood sugar stable.

Instant oatmeal. Sprinkle with cinnamon for a lunch full of fiber.

Rice cakes. Smooth on peanut butter, jelly or cream cheese for good portion control.

Brunswick tuna kits. These kits come with a few crackers. Get in those Omega 3s.

Popcorn. Be creative with seasonings. Have up to three (3) cups!

Breakfast bars. Short on money? Buy at the dollar store with several in a box and a variety.

Snack packs. Get in some calcium and satisfy that sweet tooth.

Pretzels. Get that crunchy salty fix.

Fig Newtons. An all-round healthy cookie.

Chex Mix party mix. Make homemade instead of pre-packaged. Tons of recipes at Chex.com.

Baggies of veggies. Create a variety, so as not to get bored.

The above are some solid choices. But, writers need something to drink. A drink is considered as a snack also. A few may fit in the desk drawer, however, a writer may need room on top of their desk for one (1) popular drink.

Coffee. A stimulant to rejuvenate. Obviously a writer cannot fit coffee in their desk drawer unless they buy the bottled version.

Cola. Cans or bottles are easy to keep. As writers are mostly sedentary, they should really drink diet.

Iced tea. A refreshing drink.

Lemonade. Yet, another refreshing drink.

Seltzer and Sparkling Water. The two are basically the same. I love the plain and flavored versions to get in that water for the day.  Carbonated water is so much tastier than plain water.

Bottled water. They say to get in eight glasses a day. If I have to drink water, I buy those little lemon squirters in the produce section of grocery stores and squirt lemon juice in the bottled water.

It is not like you have to go out and spend a lot of money on groceries. Pick a few snacks that you are going to love. Dollar stores such as Dollar Tree are loaded with snacks.

Now, the hardest part. Empty a desk drawer. Label the desk drawer if you need to. Do something to remind you.

Ladies and gentlemen, no more excuses. Consider that desk drawer of snacks a toolbox. You need that toolbox in order to work. Now, have a  snack and tackle your day. Write on!
