Story Prompt Ideas For Children
In these current, extraordinary circumstances we find ourselves in, how are you spending your time? When we are used to a daily routine of going to work, socializing with friends or visiting family, now we find ourselves self-isolating at home and lacking a daily structure. It is tempting to watch continuous news reports but this can have a detrimental effect on your well-being, both physically and mentally. Now is the perfect time to focus your attention on something more positive, such as writing. However, you may find it difficult to focus on new writing projects? Maybe you do not want to begin writing a new novel and would prefer to complete several smaller projects. Here, I have devised ten story prompt ideas that you can use as a basis for your own unique stories. Each subject gives you the opportunity to explore human behaviors and the relationship dynamics between different personality types. Use the prompts to explore your creative side and bring these stories to life in your own unique way.
1. On a planet far away on a distant galaxy, an emergency is about to occur. With the prospect of humans invading their land, how are they going to protect themselves?
2. A school bully is about to find out what it is like for his victims when he finds a strange pair of socks on his bedroom floor. As he puts them on there is a flash of light....
3. Write a short story about an upsetting incident in your life. You can change the ending to whatever you want. What will be different to make it a 'happily ever after' story?
4. A group of friends discovers an old cottage in the middle of the forest. They have never seen it there before. Stranger still, there seems to be a light on inside. Who could live there?
5. When a young girl is heartbroken after she comes in the final place on school sports day, she wakes the following morning to find she has super athletic powers.
6. When a boy makes a wish on Halloween, the residents are horrified to discover all of the pumpkins have come to life.
7. When a group of friends sees a huge rainbow in the sky, they set off to find the pot of gold.
8. When a young boy discovers a time machine, he sets off on an adventure to visit different countries. What different cultures will he meet and what will he learn about himself and others?
9. Write a comical story about yourself as the main character and what adventures you would experience if you had the gift of becoming invisible.
10. When two friends find a magic bottle containing a genie, they are granted three wishes, but they have to agree on what those wishes will be.
So, which of these stories are you going to choose? Are you going to write a beautiful story to read to your small children or are you going to use them to teach your children about the joys of writing? Whatever you decide, have fun creating new material that will bring enjoyment to others who are experiencing uncertainty and worry about the current situation.
