Tips To Finding Time to Work On Projects
One of the biggest challenges for any freelancer is time management. Freelancers face unique issues that affect their ability to use their time in the best way possible. Freelancers are usually juggling projects and clients and that is a time management nightmare. There are several classic time management techniques that freelancers can use in order to enable them to complete projects on time. The following are some things that help freelancers find time to work on projects.
Choosing clients carefully
A freelancer's time management struggle begins the moment he takes on one or more projects. All freelancers eventually get to a point where getting freelance clients is easy. However, it is important to choose clients and projects carefully. The first thing you should consider when applying for a new project is how much time the project requires. You should also consider the client and what conditions he has set for you. Some projects are easier to handle in this respect than others. You must therefore choose projects that are easy to handle and clients who allow you to work flexibly.
Compartmentalize your time
If you have several projects that you are working on simultaneously, you should divide your day into several parts so that you can give enough time to different projects. You should make sure that you don't divide your day into too many parts. If you are frequently changing from one project to another, it will become harder for you to complete any of the projects because your brain will get confused. If you have too many projects to work on, you can do different projects on different days of the week. This will enable you to give more attention to projects. You will also complete projects faster if your mind is fully committed to the individual projects.
Block out time and beat distractions
You should make use of a weekly planning board if you have several projects to work on. The board should be color coded depending on which project you will be working on. Once you decide to do a certain project at a certain time of the week, you can block out that part of the week.
Prioritize based on deadlines and volume of work
Although all projects should be completed eventually, there comes a time when you need to take some projects more seriously than others. For instance, if a project's deadline is quickly approaching, you should dedicate more time for the project in order to finish it on time. Also, if a project is very big, you should allocate more time for it if you are to finish it on time.
Schedule all snack breaks
You should make sure that you have breaks once in a while when working. Never be tempted to work non-stop because you will burn yourself out. You must schedule snack breaks in order to allow your mind to rest.
Minimize distractions
There are numerous sources of distractions that can affect your ability to concentrate. When you are working, you should find all sources of distractions and minimize them. For instance, you should disconnect the Internet connection to minimize unwanted notifications.
