Useful Hacks for Improving your Mental Focus - Part 2
Developing a Plan
A plan will ensure that you spend each hour of your day productively. With a clearly outlined plan of what you should do at each specific time, you will avoid confusion and increase your focus. You will also easily flow from task to task as you already know what you should do.
Invest in a great planner that suits your business/ professional needs. As a writer, list each task that you plan to work on every day, which will provide direction for that day and will create a record of what you do so that you can look back and make required adjustments if the need arises.
Set specific goals
List even small tasks that you need to do that day so that you do not forget to do anything and so that you can create enough time for every activity regardless of how small it may be. When you are constantly aware of tasks that you need to work on at the back of your mind, this affects your focus. Work on the smaller tasks and make your way to bigger tasks. That way, you will have assurance at least that you have already worked on most of what you need to do.
Take time to breathe
When faced with a challenge that you find daunting or which you are not sure how to handle, take long deep breaths and allow your mind to calm down before revisiting the issue. Giving your mind time to relax will help you come up with a better way of tackling a task and analyze it from different angles. This is particularly important too when having challenging conversations such as interviews. As a writer, when having difficult conversations, pause to give your mind time to think of the best answer and focus on the right response.
Work in comfortable attire
Find clothes that make you feel comfortable. Discomfort can easily make you uneasy and, ultimately, create a constant source of distraction. When buying and selecting clothes to wear, do not only aim at being fashionable. Also, select clothes that are practical and that will keep you warm or cool depending on the weather. Have a change of shoes ready if you work away from home which you can slip into when your feet feel tired. Additionally, when purchasing clothes, have a specific goal in mind. Some clothes may look good but may not be the right choice for you and the work you do.
Carry a notepad and pen
These are great tools to help you write down ideas that you may have for the future and focus on what is most important at the moment. They will help any writer avoid having to recall projects, ideas or tasks that they may want to undertake while providing a practical record that someone can refer to when the appropriate time arises. Writing also helps in listing solutions for tackling different activities and selecting the best one. Brainstorming, in a nutshell, improves focus and saves time.
