Writing A Book That Matters
A new book gets published on Amazon every five minutes. Did you know that? That might sound like a whole lot of books but what does it really mean? Well, if you are a reader then the chances of you running out of something to read are virtually nil but, as an author, it’s a bit of a different story. That’s an awful lot of books to compete with and, unless you have something very special, it won't be easy to make yourself heard.
If this is your first foray into the publishing world you might be a bit discouraged but don’t be. So long as you are aware of the hurdles that you are facing, you can rise magnificently to the challenge. There are three key factors to being successful at writing a new book and they are the three “P’s” – Passion, Platform, Persistence.
If you want to be serious about writing and you want to come up with something valuable, those three keys are the way to write a book that really matters. However, as with anything, that is easier said than done. What do these keys mean? Read on to find out how each one works and how they all fit together:
Passion
Just as Rome was never built in a day, so you won't write your book in one day either so don’t expect to. You will need energy – lots of it – and plenty of commitment to write a good book. You must be passionate about the book, about the subject you write on and you must be passionate about getting the right audience so you can see the book through to the end. It doesn’t matter what subject your book is, motivation and passion are the two main building blocks you need.
Platform
A very high percentage of readers much prefer to read a book that another person they like and have trust in has recommended. Creating a book that truly matters requires you to have a platform to build your audience on. If you don’t have one, you will need to create one and once you have that group of people who really want to read what you have to tell them, you need to cultivate it. Think website, blog, social media, and so on.
Persistence
If you want your book to be truly successful, you must be persistent in your marketing and you must be consistent too. Don’t ever do anything that you don’t want to do but you need to come up with a marketing plan that matches your personality; pick the actions that work for you and then keep on doing them, over and over again. If you want your book to stay in the forefront of people’s minds, to bring the results and sales that you really want, persistence is vital.
If you are new to all this, then it’s going to seem rather a lot to take in. It does get easier and it is worth the effort. You can write that book that really matters.
