Writing from Home? How to Make it Work - Part 2

Exercising is a great way to rejuvenate your body after spending hours in front of your computer. You get to smell the roses and catch some fresh air. This could entail taking walks, jogging or scheduling time at your local gym. Working out also ensures you stretch your muscles; obviously because writing involves too much sitting in the same position. There is also the inspiration that can be obtained from nature that could be useful in your writing.

Take time to meet up with friends and exchange ideas. Do not remain shut away from the world. A little party time is okay. You deserve it after spending much of your time speaking to no one in particular, probably to your cat. Social media and electronic communication do not amount to real-life conversations. Go out and get to know your neighborhood. Life should not stop because you have become a work-at-home person. Again, your social life is now in your hands. If you are not purposeful about meeting people, you might never meet them at all.

Watch what you eat also. A diet has great effects on your body, your moods, emotions and overall motivation. Again, planning helps in this case. Plan your weekly menus. There are a lot of printable meal planners that are available on the internet if you prefer fancy ones. Even when you are caught up with work, you can grab healthy bites without specifically going through the tiresome process of preparing a spectacular meal. A great way of consistently eating healthy foods is to have healthy snacks around your house such as nuts or dried fruits. You are taking much from your body and you should feed it in return. Do not skip meals, eat when you can. I am constantly learning how much writing can take away from the body and how much I need to keep refueling my system.

If you are parenting as well as working from home, things could get a little bit tricky but with planning and advancing a little kindness to yourself, know that it is possible. You need to first keep in mind that you cannot achieve the same amount of work that you could have if you were not looking after your kids. Setting achievable goals is especially crucial.

Plan your time around your toddler especially if the child is young, depending on the amount of attention that they require. Remember to save some time for yourself too. Some me-time is okay once in a while when you can slot it in.

Let your kids know when you have to work to avoid distractions. You can have them engaged as you focus on writing, probably by having them play outside or reading. Make them understand how important your work is. Setting up your office space away from the living area could also be helpful in creating a peaceful and quiet environment where you can concentrate.

In the end, you will realize that it is possible to write from home with a little bit of planning and some discipline.
