My Life My Choice is a work of fiction in the thriller and mystery genres and was penned by author Gary Smith. Following in a series that features lead character and willing hero Warren Steelgrave, we find ourselves thrust into another deep pit of political intrigue, terrorism threats and danger at every turn. With the elusive Cindy O’Brien still playing tricks with Warren’s heart, the writer turned investigator must hold his principles close as he is tested to his very limits by both love and circumstance. Enter the Mafia, the FBI and extremists aplenty, and the story rockets off into a fascinating and action-packed mystery tale.

Author Gary Smith takes us on a journey of intrigue and complexity with this next installment in the Warren Steelgrave series of novels. One of the things I’ve really liked about Warren in the past is his unusual presentation as an older hero and a man who is really experiencing strong emotional change after a lifetime of being kind of stuck as one thing. That emotional intelligence delivers a higher level of narrative during this piece, which also combines all the action and danger elements that you would expect from a thriller mystery of this ilk. What results is a layered and complex hero that enriches the story the more we get to know him, and overall it makes My Life My Choice a read like no other. Definitely recommended for thriller and mystery fans looking for something unique and well crafted.

In My Life My Choice by Gary Smith, a computer expert and nephew of a Mafia boss developed an advanced protocol to hack any computer system before he disappeared. The Moretti crime family believes the FBI knows his whereabouts and summon old adversary and novelist Warren Steelgrave to a meeting. Warren finds himself entangled in the mystery to discover the whereabouts of Mauro Moretti and find the missing protocol believed to put the national security of the country at risk. Also hunting for the protocol is a group of sadistic terrorists, called Allah's Army, who hired Mauro. Warren becomes a mere pawn in a dangerous game between the Mafia, FBI and Allah's Army. As Warren discovers the terrorist plan will end the lives of many, including his former love, he is willing to sacrifice everything to prevent them from carrying out their mission.

My Life My Choice by Gary Smith is an exceptionally well-written novel filled with excellent twists and turns throughout the plot. As well as the main plot of Warren and his involvement with the Mafia and FBI, there are also many sub-plots that are equally as gripping. The pace of the story is just right and the areas of conflict are perfectly placed. Each character is created with a detailed, unique personality. I loved the main character Warren, his flaws made him so much more relatable. I also thought Jim Dempsey of the FBI was a memorable character; very cool, calm and collected. The way the plot unfolded and uncovered another layer to the story was the most impressive part of this novel. There was suspense, intrigue, and even a love triangle. I really could not put it down. I am hoping there will be a sequel to this book as the ending left it open to learn more about Warren and the other characters.
