Author Biography

Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr. is an author of mystery, thriller, and supernatural fiction whose work blends atmospheric tension with clean, tightly controlled prose. He is the creator of the Griffin Knight Universe, a multi‑series world of psychological intrigue, noir‑driven investigations, and morally complex characters. His fiction often explores the shadows between human nature and the uncanny, where fear is quiet, creeping, and deeply personal.

Discipline, structure, and a commitment to clarity define Hernandez’s storytelling — an approach shaped by his belief that horror and suspense are most powerful when grounded in emotional truth rather than shock value. Nightfall Nightmares, part of his Twilight Nightmares collection, showcases his signature style: eerie encounters, rural dread, supernatural danger, and twist‑driven short fiction designed for readers who enjoy dark stories without profanity or gratuitous content.

His catalog includes standalone thrillers, interconnected shorts, and expanding box sets within the GK Universe, all unified by a focus on character psychology and cinematic atmosphere.

Hernandez lives in Buffalo, New York, where he continues building his publishing imprint, developing new series, and refining the evolving lore of his fictional worlds.

Nightfall Nightmares by Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr. is a collection of stories that will give you the creeps, just in time for Halloween. In The Fall of Elkhorn, rumors say an ancient sorceress has returned, cursing the town. But is it true? Is she really back to cause more evil? The Haunting Sea is set in Honolulu and follows a young woman who loves the ocean. After her father passes, her passion grows deeper and leads her to discover something amazing. If you love magical, imaginative stories, this one is for you. These are just two of twelve stories to enjoy, so what are you waiting for? Dive in!

Nightfall Nightmares: Twelve Mysterious Tales is the perfect book for sending shivers down your spine. Each story kept me on the edge of my seat, eager to turn to the next page. The writing is flawless and sets the scenes perfectly so that you can easily imagine them in your head. I enjoyed every story, but if I had to choose favorites, I’d pick The Fall of Elkhorn for its mystery around the evil curse, and Mayhem Monster because I love a good sciency/magical book. Each story was unique in its own way, although it was a hard decision as they were all so enticing with their attention-grabbing titles. These stories didn’t disappoint, so I know whoever chooses this collection as their next read will have a great time. I recommend picking up a copy and reading it throughout October to really get that spooky Halloween feel. I hope to read more from talented author Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr.

Nightfall Nightmares by Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr. is a collection of twelve dark fantasy and supernatural mystery tales, each narrated in the first person by a different character. A cybernetic detective in 2068 Boston gets tangled up with a legendary dragon who runs the city’s underworld; a werewolf arrives in a quiet valley town haunted by nightmares of an ancient sorceress; a Coast Guard investigator discovers a hidden city beneath the waves, and detectives in Atlanta come face to face with something that fell from the sky. Vampires, a djinn, and hellhounds are all lurking in the dark, and as Halloween night closes in, not everyone will make it to morning.

Nightfall Nightmares by Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr. is a fast, imaginative read that I really enjoyed. Each story drops you straight into the action, so there’s never time to get bored, and the variety kept me guessing what would come next, from gritty, neon-lit sci-fi noir to creepy gothic horror. The author isn’t afraid of dark endings either, and several of the tales finish on a note that stays with you. The settings are vivid, the monsters are properly unsettling, and the Halloween thread running through the collection gives it a spooky, seasonal feel. As with any anthology, some stories land harder than others, and a few ended more abruptly than I would have liked, but the ideas are so inventive that I was always keen to start the next one. There’s no profanity, which some readers will appreciate. If you like fast-paced dark fantasy and supernatural mysteries, this is a great pick for a spooky night in.

Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr.'s Nightfall Nightmares: Twelve Mysterious Tales explores the interactions of normal, mundane people, detectives, and monsters alike as they find themselves in situations for which there is no reasonable explanation. It brings together supernatural horror, science fiction, and dark fantasy. The Fall of Elkhorn is a tale about Joshua Raine and his friends as they defend their town from supernatural threats, which include a powerful werewolf and a vampiress, while he struggles with his own werewolf nature. Across the book, danger and mystery keep changing shape, and the unknown feels close. Mayhem Monster is set one year after Dr. Catalyst’s slime monster terrorizes a town as a young newcomer spots a strange green glow that feels like things may not be over. The rest of the book covers more unsettling ground. Haunted seas appear. Dangerous wants and wishes show up. Predatory beings make trouble. Spooky paranormal cases happen. Strange reunions and deadly masquerades take place. Catastrophic events arrive, along with unexplained markings. Dark forces lurk and then step forward. The stories lean hard into suspense and fear. Betrayal is common. Survival matters, and grave consequences follow one’s choice when facing powers that go beyond human logic.

Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr.’s Nightfall Nightmares is a collection where readers meet new people and new problems each time. Some start with small clues that build up into bigger reveals, while others move faster once the threat shows up. There are stories that lean toward action rather than deeper character focus on emotional or intellectual growth. There are times when action slows down. It then leans into discovery, open questions, and that stressful wait before something bad happens. The style is straightforward, imaginative, and engaging. It aims for clear images and a solid sense of tension during confrontations. The mood in each story is part of the pull. Because the anthology covers many tones, setups, and creepy locations, it is less predictable as settings and pacing shift while suspense grows. It has themes like fear and survival along with betrayal, ambition, justice, and private conflicts. Some warn about the cost of messing with powers people cannot fully grasp and how dangerous they can get when no one checks them. Best for readers 18+ who enjoy supernatural mysteries, monster stories, dark fantasy, strange ideas, science fiction horror, and spooky adventures.
