Duffy Brown loves anything with a mystery. While others girls dreamed of dating Brad Pitt, Duffy longed to take Sherlock Holmes to the prom.

She has two cats, Spooky and Dr. Watson, her license plate is Sherlock and she conjures up who-done-it stories of her very own for Berkley Prime Crime.

Pearls and Poison by Duffy Brown is the third in her Consignment Shop Mystery series, set in Savannah, Georgia. The books feature Reagan Summerside, owner of said consignment shop, the Prissy Fox, and a budding amateur sleuth, more like ‘Stephanie Plum meets Scarlett O'Hara’ than Miss Marple. Reagan’s Mamma and local judge, Gloria, is running in Savannah’s alderman elections against Kip ‘Scumbucket’ Seymour and Archie Lee, bar owner. When Seymour is dispatched to the great rally in the sky, Gloria is pegged as chief suspect and her campaign is left in tatters. Reagan and her martini-chugging, Cher-quoting Aunt KiKi are determined to prove Gloria’s innocence, with the help of local funeral home beautician, Mercedes, and without the help of attorney and local heart-breaker, Walker Boone, no matter how much trouble they end up in!

I enjoyed reading Pearls and Poison; it is both good fun and laugh-out-loud funny. Duffy Brown has created a likeable heroine, with more than her fair share of sass, and paints a clear image of a southern town and its madcap characters. As a whodunit, it gets straight into the mystery within a few pages and provides ample clues and suspects. The story develops well and the exploits of Reagan, Mercedes, and KiKi mark it out from many cozy mystery series. If you enjoy the work of Janet Evanovich and like your cozies with a side of attitude, then this is for you!
