The Moon Run by Kathleen Contine follows Finley Clarke, a renowned ship racing champion. Finley was at the peak of her racing career when she tragically lost her copilot, Cayne, in a devastating crash. She believes that Garis, another racer, is responsible for this crash due to his reckless flying. After a year of grieving and avoiding flying, Finley is contractually obligated to participate in one final race. To her shock, she discovers that Garis—the person she despises the most—will be her new copilot. Despite their animosity, the unlikely duo becomes the season's favorite as fans eagerly anticipate how these former rivals will compete together. As they race through various legs of the competition, Finley and Garis begin to understand and rely on each other. However, their journey is complicated by Garis’s former copilot, Castor, who consistently causes chaos and sabotages their efforts. Finley and Garis must navigate both the physical challenges of the race and their emotional struggles from the past.

Kathleen Contine's The Moon Run is a captivating story that is not only thrilling but also explores themes of friendship, passion, and overcoming fears. The plot is engaging and filled with unpredictable twists, and the characters are intriguing. Finley is a charismatic character who deals with grief while undergoing her healing process in a tense environment. Garis is a kind and understanding partner she never expected to rely on. Their banter is entertaining, and the evolution of their relationship is both emotional and compelling. I also enjoyed getting to know the other racers, including Castor, who felt like a pesky roach that just wouldn't go away. The story features suspenseful and intense moments, with racers navigating treacherous terrain, dodging falling pillars and giant worms, and racing in adverse weather conditions. It is infused with romance, mystery, and action that will keep readers engrossed. I enjoyed this story and recommend it to anyone who loves science fiction and adventure novels about second chances, overcoming personal struggles, and forming unlikely alliances.
