In Transformed by Grace: A Scriptural Path to Sobriety, Rodney V. Corriveau discusses addiction as a cycle driven by temporary relief and false control, resulting in physical dependence, spiritual disconnection, and isolation. He states that lasting change begins with surrender to God, not self-effort, and relies on the Holy Spirit for direction. Corriveau advocates for consistent practices such as prayer, Scripture study, boundary-setting, and accountability within a faith-based community as foundational to recovery. He is clear that recovery involves rejecting materialistic values and self-centered patterns, instead aligning one's daily decisions with God’s purpose. Service to others, use of spiritual gifts, and gratitude are described as integral to maintaining sobriety. Corriveau maintains that transformation is continuous and grounded in obedience, personal responsibility, and trust in God’s sufficiency over worldly success and milestones.

Transformed by Grace by Rodney V. Corriveau is an inspiring and actionable guide that redefines recovery as a life fully surrendered to God’s direction. Corriveau presents a refreshing perspective that centers on trusting the Holy Spirit and prioritizing God’s purpose above all else. The writing is straightforward, and the author's approach is uniquely easy to understand, backed up by scripture and making his work interactive by including questions for reflection. His practical steps for discovering and developing spiritual gifts offer valuable direction for anyone seeking meaningful change, and a willingness to accept that addiction recovery is an issue that cannot be managed alone. Overall, Corriveau invites readers to embrace faith-driven action and continual reliance on God’s guidance throughout every stage of recovery, delivering hope in a way that feels both comforting and empowering.

Transformed by Grace by Rodney V. Corriveau is written to help those who are addicted in the recovery phase, or who have reached sobriety and wish to retain it. The subtitle, A Scriptural Path to Sobriety, is key to understanding its purpose and method. Corriveau writes that a relationship with Jesus Christ is the way to overcome addiction. Because it’s a Christian-based book, there are Bible verses throughout, and the index contains a list of Bible verses arranged by theme. The book starts by laying out the trap and the horror that addiction is, and then pivots to explaining that there is hope to overcome it. Each chapter contains reflection questions so that readers can examine where they are currently, followed by a Faith in Action section so they can apply what they learned about themselves and make real change in their lives. Chapter titles include The Cycle of Self-Destruction, The Turning Point, The Ongoing Journey of Transformation, and seven more.

Transformed by Grace by Rodney V. Corriveau is a valuable resource for anyone in the throes of addiction. It’s also useful for those who know someone who is addicted and would like to help them overcome the addiction. Although the book is Bible based, one does not have to be a believer to benefit from the wise and practical steps outlined in the book. I found the reflection questions to be especially helpful because they help people see where they’re at right now and how they need to change. Similarly, the step-by-step plans, called Action Steps, and the Faith in Action sections offer practical steps, enabling readers to put the principles into practice. The list of Bible verses arranged by theme in the index is an extremely valuable resource. Anyone who is addicted, whatever the addiction may be, will benefit from this excellent resource.
