Unburied is the first book in the Cycle of The Loci of Power Series by Patrick Scott. Faye has a lot of things going on in her life right now. She is headstrong, fearless, and troubled but she pushes forward, determined to live her life the way she wants. Things change one day as she heads home from a party to the off-campus house she shares with three other girls. She follows a melodic cry and encounters a situation that could only be a dream or a hallucination. She wakes up the next day on her bed, with a half-remembered dream and with barely any clue as to what future awaits her.
Faye leads a seemingly ordinary life with a troubled past in Patrick Scott's Unburied. However, by the end of the first chapter, I quickly learned that there is something more to this fearless college student than meets the eye. I already had so many questions as I read the first part of the book. Who is that familiar and mysterious voice? Why is this happening to Faye? What will happen next? Patrick Scott took me on a fantastical and mysterious ride that is hard to forget. As I read through the chapters, the events that happened at the start were constantly at the back of my mind and I was looking for answers.
Faye is brave to the point of being nearly foolish and she has troubles of her own and pain in her past she is determined to forget. It was interesting to follow her on her fantastical journey because, along the way, she faces her pains, learns new skills, and grows. She becomes stronger physically and emotionally to protect her friends and dad. I admired and worried for her as she faces these difficult situations to get the answers she needs. This book has taken me on an unexpected, imaginative, and riveting adventure. I can’t wait to read what happens in the next book! Good job!
