Bracken loves playing with his friends, but his best friend is his grandma, Grams. One morning, Grams visits Bracken’s house with a huge smile on her face, and they decide to visit the Dinosaur Forest, as Bracken had been thinking about it. Bracken lists the names of all the dinosaurs he might see. Bravely and happily, the duo walk into the forest, sometimes stomping and roaring like dinosaurs. They walk deeper and deeper into the forest until they stumble upon a Stegosaurus. Gram freezes while Bracken shouts for her to run. We’re Going to the Dinosaur Forest by Marie Nichols contains the rest of this adventure.

We’re Going to the Dinosaur Forest by Marie Nichols is a beautiful picture book about Bracken and Grams’s adventure in the Dinosaur Forest. The illustrations by Penny Weber were the highlight of this book for me. They were so colorful and expressive. I liked the story and found it exciting because I was not expecting that Bracken and Grams would stumble on any real dinosaurs; I thought the Dinosaur Forest would just be a gallery of dinosaur pictures. I liked Bracken and Grams’s close relationship. I enjoyed learning about dinosaurs, and I liked the “Dinosaur Facts” at the end of the book because this explains the nature of the dinosaurs and the pronunciation of their names. I was impressed that this book taught me the American pronunciation of the word “herbivore.” I enjoyed this picture book, and I recommend it, especially to children who like dinosaurs.
