Winter’s Journey by Kathryn Meyer Griffith is a murder mystery. Loretta Brannan needs to keep a roof over her head and stop the bank from taking her 18-wheeler truck, so she takes a job on a dangerous route. If it works out, if she meets her deadline, she gets a huge bonus and the chance of more work. The trouble is, there is a huge snow storm moving in; the route is bad enough as it is, but with the winter storm it will be a whole lot worse. Halting at a truck stop, Loretta gets into trouble and Sam Emerson, a hitchhiker, helps her out. She agrees to take him with her to Wyoming, but the journey is about to turn murderous. Blizzards strike, truckers are being murdered, and a strange truck is tailing them. Loretta fears that Sam may be the killer and she’s about to find out. The journey is fraught with danger, but can Loretta make it back home safely? Is Sam a murderer or just in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Winter’s Journey by Kathryn Meyer Griffith is a fantastic tale that will have you on the edge of your seat all the way through. The plot is quite unique and incredibly well thought out; it is action all the way with lots of hooks in it that kept me reading. The story flowed smoothly and was written in such a descriptive way that I almost felt as though I was there, in the truck, battling along an icy highway in the mountains. The main characters are exceptionally well developed, with details of their lives filtering through the story, letting us get to know them gradually. The suspense is thrilling and there are no clues to the ending at all, although I did kind of guess part of it. I absolutely loved this, and would highly recommend it to fans of murder mystery and suspense stories.
