In A Hug for the Soul: Truth, Tears, and WTF Moments, Stacey McCann reflects on her own experiences to explore what it means to be human. Each chapter includes everyday moments such as parenting mishaps, awkward social encounters, grief, anger, and exhaustion, while also questioning modern habits like constant phone use and the need for approval. McCann mixes humor with straight talk, stopping to reflect on why people hide behind labels and even compare themselves to others. The narrative doesn’t move in a straight line, but comes together through short essays that circle back to one key point: real connection comes from being honest, not putting on an act. It reminds readers they aren’t alone in what they’re dealing with.

A Hug for the Soul: Truth, Tears, and WTF Moments by Stacey McCann is an inspirational collection of personal reflections that encourages readers to stop and think. I appreciated how the author writes with blunt honesty while using humor, even when discussing sensitive topics like grief, betrayal, and shame. Because it’s written in short essays, the book flows well and is easy to return to without feeling lost afterward. I found McCann’s conversational tone inviting, especially when she critiques wellness culture and social media without coming across as condescending. Her willingness to explore uncomfortable and heavy topics gives the writing a true sense of trust. I connected with the way she challenges the reader's need to appear healed or enlightened. Overall, this book came across like a genuine conversation. It reminded me that it's okay to be myself, not who I sometimes feel pressured to be.
