Dear Sam is the first book in The Jilted Ex Series by Beth Carter. Dr. Sam Jennings is a kind-hearted veterinarian who receives the shock of his life when his fiancée, Gabby, unexpectedly leaves him a couple of months before their planned wedding. While his close friends console him as best as they can, Sam develops a crush on his cute new neighbor who has recently moved into town. Faith Donovan is attracted to her new neighbor, Sam, but mistakenly assumes that he has a girlfriend. Meanwhile, she runs into her high school sweetheart, Dallas Adams, at an event where she is catering. Faith also starts writing a relationship advice column for the local newspaper, and one mysterious reader seeks her advice about being relegated to the 'friend zone.' For Faith, it hits very close to home.
Full of drama and humor, Dear Sam is perfect for rom-com lovers. It was such an easy, entertaining read for me. Beth Carter tells a charming love story featuring "jilted exes" who do their best to stop the protagonists from ending up together. Carter's pacing is brilliant, crafting an absorbing narrative that is a breeze to read. I found the characters very funny and likable, and I'm not even talking about the two main protagonists. Even the secondary characters are fun to read about. Sam and Faith's interactions will have you rooting for the two of them. But I also enjoyed the scenes involving Sam's friends, as well as Faith's catering adventures. Overall, this is an absolute treat for contemporary romance readers. I had a blast with this novel, and you should too.
