ABCs Of My First Surgery by FA Khan is a colorful story that guides kids through surgery. The illustrations by Bazma Ahmad are amazing and help kids understand what they are reading with some fun visuals. This is a wonderfully written book that explains everything in plain language and also offers facts and useful tidbits of information to help kids enjoy their learning journey. This book is not just for reading, though. Kids can “play” alongside it by learning how to listen to their heartbeat, take their own pulse, listen to their own breathing, and much more besides. This is a good book for all kids facing their first surgery and for their caregivers, too. It is accurate, beautifully written, and a cool, interactive journey for kids to go on. Highly recommended reading for kids of all ages, even if they don’t have to have surgery – it’s a great way to learn about what goes on in a hospital and allay their fears.
