In a lovely, meandering and romantic story set in Victorian New England, Afternoon Tea by author Jody R. LaGreca is simply a must-read for any reader who loves historical fiction, a little bit of romance, and a whole lot of love story. Follow the story of the elderly Lawrence Gray, a man who has left flowers on his wife's grave every Sunday for forty years, and his neighbor Meg Bailey, who would love to find out the story behind his devotion. When the town historian, Fanny Brund, explains the mystery surrounding Mr. Gray and his wife and the guilt he must feel about her death, Meg's curiosity is piqued even further. But by investigating the truth of what really happened, Meg just might find out something that will change her life forever.

I so enjoyed Afternoon Tea. Author Jody R. LaGreca has a real gift in developing characters that her readers will connect with, relate to, and love. If that's not a sign of a truly great writer, I'm not sure what is. The scenes she sets are magical, making the reader feel as if they are actually in Victorian times. Afternoon Tea is a lovely read, and one that is in turn sweet, interesting and exciting. The only suggestion I would have for the reader, besides being sure to add this book to your "must read" list, would be to set aside enough time to read the whole thing once you pick it up. You simply won't want to stop! I recommend this book, and will certainly keep my eye out for more work by author Jody R. LaGreca in the future!
