A beautifully written romance by Traci Hunter Abramson, An Unlikely Pair brings us the story of two very different people coming together and accomplishing great things in the world of ice skating. It begins with the frustration of Amaliya Marcell, approaching her eighteenth birthday, being given the opportunity to join the San Francisco Ballet, only to have her dreams dashed by her mother, Katerina, a former ballet dancer for what Katerina sees as a perfectly good reason at the time. Her father Robert is reluctant to talk about it with her mother, not wanting to hurt either of the two women in his life whom he adores. Amaliya’s parents take a weekend trip to New York with devastating, life-changing consequences for all of them. Through all the upset of an accident, pain, heartache, emotional suffering, and mind games, Amaliya finds a new focus, a goal in life, and love. Enjoy being drawn in by Traci Hunter Abramson’s aptly titled An Unlikely Pair. A thrilling story packed with various aspects of the very different worlds of the main characters, ballet, hockey, and ice skating, all with their own disciplines. The main characters each with their own problems and struggles are brought to life and we are able to form opinions and feelings toward each one, thanks to the deep and insightful descriptions of their thoughts and feelings. You will enjoy learning so much about the sacrifice and dedication it takes to be a success in the ice skating arena, as well as the great skill and grace and strength required, along with the not so much seen darker side of mind games played by competitors. Accompanied by the emotions of upset at the family tragedy and the love aspect in this story, the hopes and desires of the main characters are brought together in what I can only describe as a fabulous story.
