Fun, fun, fun! That’s the best way I can describe author Freida McFadden’s Baby City. Follow medical resident Emily McCoy during her time in “Baby City,” the joking name given to the labor and delivery ward of a New York City hospital. Emily delivers baby after baby, learning something from each delivery as she works toward her goal of becoming a fully qualified OB/GYN. Emily also learns several very important life lessons about friendship, love, and the unpredictable nature of the world during her time in Baby City, all the while fighting off every resident’s greatest enemy, sleep deprivation.
I so enjoyed this book. Author Freida McFadden is a clever author who writes with a great sense of humor and wit. She is skilled at developing characters that the reader will truly care about. At times laugh out loud funny, Baby City is also heartwarming and very engrossing. In fact, the only piece of advice that I have for any reader, besides suggesting that they read this book, is to make sure you have set aside enough time to read it from start to finish - if you’re anything like me, you’ll be hooked from the first page. Baby City would appeal to anyone who loves a fun story with a strong female protagonist, a book with realistic medical scenarios, or just a great piece of fiction. I am pleased to recommend Baby City and certainly look forward to reading more by author Freida McFadden in the very near future!
