Boba Wars Zero by Tom Dolan is a thrilling post-apocalyptic YA sci-fi adventure following Raen Bissitter, a demon hunter from a legendary bloodline. With demons on the rise and a god of chaos threatening humanity, Raen is called back into service. Alongside her sister Massal, Raen faces biotech-wielding cultists, deadly minions, and family betrayal as they race to stop Goloruk before he devours millions of souls. With relentless action, sisterly bonds, and a fast-paced plot, Boba Wars Zero delivers a cinematic, adrenaline-fueled ride through a world on the brink of destruction.

Author Tom Dolan has a real knack for pacing and timing, and his writing delivers relentless action sequences that feel vivid and cinematic but also give you a really clear picture of what's going on. This sharp detail also extends to the way the characters and settings are described. The unique mix of sci-fi, fantasy, and post-apocalyptic elements is a real achievement in world-building that is still grounded in reality despite its fun quirks. The relationship between Raen and Massal is a great central element and an unusual dynamic for the center of this genre, offering a strong sisterly bond that's packed with sharp, witty dialogue. I loved the banter and sass between the characters, but also the way they explained plot elements naturally so that we understand the more unusual concepts going on through their eyes. Overall, Boba Wars Zero is an incredibly well-told story that I would highly recommend to YA readers and sci-fi fans.
