Adam Gussow’s realistic fiction, Busker's Holiday, is a novel (that reads like a memoir) about two young men busking their way through Europe for a summer. McKay Chernoff is a Columbia University grad student coming out of a bad breakup. He desperately needs a fresh start. So with a harmonica in his pocket, he flies to Paris to work as a street performer. When McKay meets Billy Lee Grant, he knows that Billy is the partner in crime that he has been searching for. Bill encourages McKay to stay at parties that last all night. They fill up on wine, women, and hallucinogenic mushrooms. They hop on a train that takes them across the French Riviera. They busk across many places in Europe, including Paris, Florence, Solingen, and Amsterdam. Along the way they find adventure, a woman or two, friendship, hope, and most importantly, self-discovery.

Adam Gussow has written a really interesting and unique story in Busker's Holiday. It is so realistic that it almost reads like a memoir. The antics of the characters and the crazy, adventurous incidents that happen to them seem so outlandish that they couldn’t possibly be made up. And yet, Gussow pairs all of that with beautiful, eloquent writing that one would expect in literary fiction, winning fancy awards. It is such a unique combination that it should allow all readers to enjoy this fun and interesting road trip across the beautiful setting of Europe. There is so much culture and history immersed in these pages that readers will appreciate the learning experience too.
