Author Biography

Born in 1946, I grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio … a small city just outside of Akron.

Not continuing an education in college, my secondary education began in the rice paddies of South Vietnam.
I took up writing as a hobby along with hypnotherapy. I had a part-time practice for several years, and worked small business over 40 years.

Most of us have much to be told as ‛Our Story’… the behind the scenes us. There is a novel lurking in us all, and with a little embellishment, no one would really know that your fiction is three quarters fact.
Nevertheless, we… fiction writers, explore another element. That is what makes up genre fiction. How much truth is behind the veil of that word of fiction? An interesting thought, to be sure.
I wrote Sky Walkers Code Name: Operation Starlight, as if I had lived it, and in fact, I guess I had. Then, I removed it from Amazon, and wrote the prequel, book 1: “Captain Jon Hunter Psychic Spy”, and Sky Walkers, professional re edit, and is on Amazon now.
Why did I write this series? I'm not sure. Perhaps, from an flying-saucer encounter I had as a kid with my childhood best friend, when I was around nine or 10. I say encounter because I really to this day do not know what it, or the subsequent events were. I won't even speculate.
Join me and my ‘novel’ adventures, and I will see you… out there.
Your friend,

Captain Jon Hunter Psychic Spy: Sky Walkers Book 1 by D. Owen Powell is the story of a man on a mission to save the world, but in doing so, he would have to reveal a part of him that he had kept hidden for years. Jon Hunter was the best at what he did and he still is. There was a time when he was the best Army Ranger in the country and now is considered among the top officers in the Psychic Warfare Unit of the military. Choosing to be closer to his family was way easier than he thought and he couldn’t have been happier about the decision he made. But when Earth is threatened by the nefarious Drakonian Empire, he knows that he cannot hang back anymore. The future of the human race is precariously dangling by a thread and Jon is the only one who can save everyone. The issue is that there is something about his heritage that he kept hidden for years and now he must reveal it all to save Earth. There are sacrifices to be made and he needs to be a hundred percent sure if he wants to make them or not.

Wow, this is an intense and action-packed novel. Jon is such a powerful yet vulnerable character. He is human in every sense of the word and he allows that vulnerability to make him stronger than he ever was. He allows himself some breathing room in danger, clears his mind and makes the best decisions he can. The author did an impressive job at not only making him appear heroic, but believable. The plot is wonderfully built, the pace is fast, the characters are given enough space to develop and the dialogues are paced right so that the reader learns a lot more than their literal meaning. This is a great story and I can’t wait for the next novel in the series.

Captain Jon Hunter Psychic Spy is the first book in the Sky Walkers science fiction series by D. Owen Powell, a novel with hints of the paranormal and adventure, featuring a good selection of characters. The Drakonian Empire has conquered many worlds already and they are ruthless. With their eyes set on Earth, nothing can stop them, and that's how it's supposed to be. Humanity is about to fall and there is only one hope to save them: Captain Jon Hunter. A Former United States Army Ranger, Hunter is one of the best operatives in the military. All he wants is a quiet life with his family after years of service, but the impending threat to humanity pulls him out. Deep down, he knows that the destiny of humanity is at stake and no other person can face the reptilian army that is headed for Earth but him. He has to free an old ally and reconnect to the supernatural part of him if he stands a chance of saving humanity. But does he have what it takes to stop a threat as powerful as what lies ahead?

Written in prose that is tight and featuring scenes that are focused, Captain Jon Hunter Psychic Spy is a pulsating story that is highly imaginative and feels real. The author creates characters that include humans and aliens and a protagonist that is multidimensional. One of the things that make this novel an outstanding work is the magnitude of the conflict. The admiration that readers will have for the protagonists is proportional to the danger they face and the author handles this aspect of the story deftly. It is fast-paced, action-packed and filled with many twists. I enjoyed the character developmental arc, loved the way the conflict is handled, and was swept away by the sheer beauty of the storytelling craft. The imagery is so powerful that it is easy to conjure clear mental pictures of the characters and the setting in which the story develops. A fascinating read, indeed.

Captain Jon Hunter Psychic Spy by D. Owen Powell is the first book in the author's new science fiction Sky Walkers series, which follows the titular character, Jon Hunter, in an end of the world scenario with an original twist. Immediately after he marries Barbara Telluride, he leaves behind his pregnant wife for a six-month Ranger mission...one which sees him and a fellow comrade Douglas Bean abducted by a reptilian alien race. After the escape and return home, Barbara gives birth to twin boys and very nearly dies, saved by a secret that only Jon knows: Jon is a hybrid. Part human, part alien. His capabilities elevate him above the rest when he is rapidly promoted to a military operative, one where he taps into his past—a past that extends beyond the earth itself—to try to save the planet he calls home, the planet he was created to save.

Captain Jon Hunter Psychic Spy is an entertaining science fiction story that has an interesting premise. D. Owen Powell does an excellent job building a universe at war, bringing the reptilians (and their Drakonian Empire) to the forefront as hostile invaders. I liked that more benevolent aliens assist and that their characteristics are strongly defined. I feel like where Powell excels is in distinguishing one from the other. Often with multiple characters from multiple planets, names and imagery get jumbled in the mind a bit. That isn't an issue with this book, nor is it even something I had to think about until I'd finished the last page. Also, while Jon Hunter is the perfect man for the job he's been shaped for, he's nowhere near a perfect man. His humanity is made abundantly clear, giving him the best of both worlds in a book that lovers of both the science fiction and superhero genres will appreciate.

Captain Jon Hunter Psychic Spy by D. Owen Powell is the first entry in the Sky Walkers science fiction series, an action-packed and imaginative story for fans of the genre. A horde of reptilian invaders has their sights set on earth and their invasion is advancing steadily. The only hope of survival against such powers and alien technology is in a soldier, Jon Hunter, a man who just wants to spend time with Barbara and raise his own kids after years of active service. Now he has to head a team to stop the enemies. Captain Hunter was a United States Army Ranger, but his skills have not been fully unveiled. With his contact with the mysterious Tanok, he becomes aware of the gift of the Star Seed, one that is gifted to only a few. His reincarnation on earth at this crucial time could be the only thing to help humanity. He possesses powers beyond most humans' capabilities. But can these gifts help him to stop the horror looms ahead, free the hostages, including the President, and save humanity?

This is an interesting story and I loved the way the protagonist is imagined. He is a man with deep human connections. While he possesses superpowers, he is a man in love, a man who wants to raise his own kids. While he increasingly becomes aware of his gifts, he can’t let the woman he loves know about them and this is another painful part. Readers encounter a protagonist faced with a huge responsibility, but also a man with a lot to lose. He is emotionally and psychologically rich and readers can easily connect with him. The writing is unique and the author’s use of neologisms to describe new concepts showcased his artistic creativity. I loved the spiritual idea of the Isness, a concept that is evocative of spiritual energy, akin to a god, and not in the traditional sense of the term. The humor is not lacking in this action-packed story. There are numerous instances where it comes out in the midst of the action. D. Owen Powell creates an exciting world that readers will love to navigate and a story with powerful plot points and extraordinary characters.
