Chasing Tsegi Wind by WD Olive is a riveting story about one man’s life and his passion for hot-air ballooning. The author will take you on a journey over the sacred lands and canyons of the Southwest as he explores the mystical lands inhabited by the Diné people. From his early days as a miner, where danger and hard physical labor were ever present, to the freedom of the skies and the many near-disasters that ballooning amongst the narrow canyons can present, this book takes you on both a physical and a spiritual journey. The author reminds readers that freedom and peace of mind are still obtainable in this hectic world, as long as you are prepared to make the effort, do the hard work, and take the odd risk or two along the way.
Chasing Tsegi Wind draws you deeply and intimately into the life of a hot air balloon pilot and the feelings of awe and wonder that this entails. Author WD Olive has a wonderful way with descriptive prose that takes readers inside the wicker basket with him, staring down at the world passing by. I particularly appreciated the author’s deep spiritual understanding of the land and the people who have inhabited it for thousands of years. He effortlessly conveys the magnificence of nature and the ecstasy of balloon flight, especially to those readers who have never experienced it for themselves. I was carried along in the excitement of soaring above the earth and was clearly reminded that there are countless opportunities out there to explore and enjoy. This is truly a celebration of life and faith, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend this read.
