Chasm in Time is Book 4 in the Sons of Meir series by Jacqueline T. Johnson, an epic tale of family intrigue and secrets that features very compelling characters and intense action. Two warriors, Nash and Erich, are very close friends, but, like all friends, they have their moments of disagreement. This time, it leads to a brawl that ends in them both going missing. Rattled by the incident and worried about the fate of his father, Reuben isn’t sure if Nash (his father) still lives or if he’s been killed by his own best friend. Now, the sons of Meir must unite to seek answers to questions they are afraid to ask. Are they ready to face the truth that they are about to discover?
I was arrested by the beautiful prose right from the first lines of the story. Jacqueline T. Johnson has the rare gift of creating powerful scenes with the careful use of descriptive prose, and the way she integrates the prose with the intensity of the plot is just marvelous. The reader is drawn in by the action that opens this gripping story. Reuben is lost in the woods, “spurred forward by the darkness,” and the way the author captures the images offers an irresistible bait to the reader, who is just too keen to find out what is happening.
The author doesn’t waste any time in raising serious questions that will be explored throughout the book. One may feel like the beginning is powerful and intense, but as one reads further, one feels completely immersed in a world inhabited by interesting characters and a secret that could destroy the history of a family. It is enticingly gripping, a must-read. Chasm in Time is a book I will recommend to anyone looking for an entertaining read with a lot of excitement.
