Choose Bliss: The Power and Practice of Joy and Contentment by Moneeka Sawyer is an inspirational and motivational self-help book for anyone who wants to know how to experience life in a more peaceful and fulfilled way. The author experienced bullying and low self-esteem during her childhood and growing up years, and later a number of difficult and challenging life events. This gave her the basis from which to develop strength, resilience, and remarkable strategies and values, and through this book she shares her techniques and methods. Bliss is described as emotional contentment, an underlying feeling of joy, satisfaction and peace. The chapters describe exactly how this state can be achieved and maintained – by living by core values, understanding your own limiting/judging thoughts and beliefs, having self-love, practicing gratitude, forgiveness, self-responsibility, knowing how and when to make the right choices, allowing yourself to “play” or be creative, being authentic, and helping others.

I’ve read many books about how to find inner contentment and live in an authentic and fulfilling way, but Choose Bliss has a refreshingly lovely down-to-earth tone and I found it very appealing and immensely sensible. Well-written in an easy to read and empathetic style, the book takes us on a journey to understand our inner selves. Moneeka Sawyer's sharing of her own experiences is its strength. I think many readers will identify with the struggles the author describes, and how this led to her ability and motivation to seek out truths and meanings in life. Her resilience and determination to be herself and aim to be free from limiting self-judgement and the judgement of others inspire the reader to seek how to do the same. The strategies and methods are all very do-able and achievable.

I like the idea of seeing the ego as a natural and, in many ways, useful part of ourselves, and the chapter on forgiveness will ring true for anyone who has been unable to let go of grudges and critical thinking of others. I thought it was a great idea to include a chapter on play and creativity: play/being creative seen as having many cognitive and healing benefits. An inspiring and encouraging read that reaches out to all readers, regardless of background, culture, race, religion, and conveying strength and hope to anyone needing sustenance on their spiritual/life journey. Recommended.

Choose Bliss: The Power and Practice of Joy and Contentment is a motivational self-help book written by Moneeka Sawyer. The author has transformed her life into one filled with bliss, but she had many of the same challenges and hardships that others experience in their lives. How was she able to get past them? Sawyer discusses her definition of what bliss is for her, and how it makes for a life filled with joy and contentment. She relates the difficulties she had as an Indian child growing up in a predominately white neighborhood, and the other traumatic experiences she had to come to terms with in her search for bliss. She shares her life-journey with her readers, and shows how to make your ego into a friend, how to practice self-love, how to forgive, and how to take responsibility for yourself and your actions. Along the way, Sawyer's prescription for bliss coalesces into a formula that can be infinitely adapted to the reader's personal needs.

Moneeka Sawyer's motivational self-help book, Choose Bliss: The Power and Practice of Joy and Contentment, is an inspiring and accessible read. Sawyer's voice is confident and clear as she relates her past issues and the journey she undertook to find her bliss. She writes in an easy and conversational manner, and I soon realized there was neither pretense nor artifice in what she was sharing. Sawyer is frank and fearless as she speaks of past trauma, and her strength and resilience are testimony to the effectiveness of her philosophy. I especially like the assignments she gives her readers as they hone in on the essentials of each chapter, and helps her readers to make those concepts their own. Still angry over something someone said or did all those years ago? Sawyer makes it impossibly easy to get over it and get happy instead. Choose Bliss: The Power and Practice of Joy and Contentment is highly recommended.

Choose Bliss: The Power and Practice of Joy and Contentment by Moneeka Sawyer is a self-help book that teaches you how to choose, a book that will change the way you see yourself, your life, and everything that surrounds you. It is a book that shows you what is possible for you to achieve just by being able to choose. There are lots of concepts that will teach you bliss practices that you can put into place immediately, and some exercises for you to follow to fill your life with bliss forever. This book contains proven tools that are completely successful, enabling you to choose a life of bliss from now onwards, to rise above what life throws at you and choose bliss.

Choose Bliss: The Power and Practice of Joy and Contentment by Moneeka Sawyer made for interesting reading. I’ve read more than a few self-help books in my life and most of them are much the same. This one was a little different, including real life stories to demonstrate the concepts contained within. This makes the concepts easier to follow because you know that someone has been there and can demonstrate their choices. The information given and the exercises provided are both informative and practical, and you can apply them to any situation, no matter what it is. That said, it is made clear that choosing bliss isn’t a one-step journey; you do have to be committed and prepared to make the right choices at the right time to be where you want to be. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is going through a difficult time, anyone who needs that push to make the right choices.
