Navigating the Entrepreneur Sandwich™ by Sher Downing is a business and caregiving handbook for entrepreneurs whose aging parents begin needing regular support. Downing opens with the kind of phone call that can change an ordinary business day instantly, when a parent falls and family responsibility suddenly requires immediate decisions. From there, she defines The Entrepreneur Sandwich™ as the position business owners enter when caregiving begins sharing the same calendar as clients. As a parent’s independence changes, Downing follows the decisions that come next, beginning with where that parent can live safely and how much involvement the entrepreneur can realistically provide. The book then brings that new reality back into the company, where Downing shows how an entrepreneur can prepare operations to continue during an absence while family responsibilities become part of everyday business planning.
Sher Downing’s Navigating the Entrepreneur Sandwich™ is a fantastic business guide, and a genuinely useful tool for entrepreneurs supporting aging parents. The writing of the book is direct and easy to use, and I love that Downing gives readers systems they can put into practice at once. The 2 a.m. Protocol is a perfect example, and Downing has prewritten client messages ready alongside team instructions that keep business communication moving during a family emergency. I also liked Debbie Ferro Burke’s shared story, where neighbors handle yard maintenance after Debbie has to leave quickly as a family member with medical experience manages medication. There is practical experience behind this, and Downing keeps bringing everything back to what an entrepreneur can do. Well written and full of usable guidance, readers facing this season of business ownership will adore this.
