Crushing on the Enemy is a light, clean chick lit novel by Darci Doll. It is about a woman named Roslyn Cosi who seems to have her whole life figured out. She has an exciting corporate job and works for a major chain of convenience stores. The long hours and the fast pace of her job should be enough to keep her happy, but two weeks before she turns thirty she realizes something is missing. She wants a husband and kids. Enter the mysterious bear claw man, Chris, who captures her attention right away. After going on a few dates with him, she figures out that she has never felt this way about anyone before. Although she thinks they are meant to be together, Chris also quickly manages to skew Rosi’s perfect job. When her boss sees them together, he no longer trusts her. Her job is suddenly on the line because of her relationship with Chris. Rosi cares for Chris a lot. But is that enough? He is the enemy, after all. Rosi is suddenly forced to think about her past, present and the future. Will she follow her heart’s desires or stick with her corporate job and never try to change?
Crushing on the Enemy is a wonderful romance that will leave you with butterflies in your stomach. My favorite thing about this book is the characters. They are all diverse and admirable, and I even caught myself feeling sorry for the bad guys. Rosi, the protagonist, is a woman you will come to love by the ending of the story. You will want to shake her and tell her to snap out of it at some points, but she really is an admirable woman. Chris is a sweet guy as well and I could feel myself developing a crush on him in the middle of the story.
Darci Doll’s writing is great, overall; she manages to create a well written story with a unique front and center business aspect. The pacing is what you would expect of a chick lit novel, but it worked well with the story. I could have easily finished this book in one sitting and never really wanted it to end. I recommend this book to all chick lit lovers and to someone who is looking for a fast and all around fun novel. You will cheer for the lovers, curse at the bad guys, and fall in love with love all over again.
